Our league is now in year 8. Can you believe it?

I think Yahoo may be having an issue with its renewal/join system. I re-opened this league on June 24, which would’ve sent an e-mail with an invitation for everyone to renew. And it says all 20 people did - and on the first day it was open too. Which is implausible. I have another league with the same result. I’m worried yahoo screwed up and automatically re-registered people without their consent, and it falsely tells us we have 20 people ready to go when we do not.

So please, if you are in, please confirm on this thread you are playing. If you were in last year, but don’t want to play this year, and yahoo falsely signed you up, please report that.

The provisional draft date is Tuesday Sep 6 at 8:30 eastern. This is the same relative draft date that we had last year, it seems to work for people. But if you want to request a change, we can still try to push it through early. But this will probably end up being draft day, because we’ve done the Tuesday before the season starts for a few years now and it works for almost everyone.

You must attend the draft in this league, because there are 20 players the yahoo valuations won’t draft anyone for you. If you don’t show up to the draft, you don’t get an auto-drafted team, you get scraps. If you can’t make the draft, don’t sign up, and if something comes up, tell me at the earliest possible time.

So again, please post if yahoo signed you back up in error, or if you’re good to go for this year. I need to know soon so I can recruit to replace people if need be.

Please do not change your name dramatically. For the first few years, people would come up with new funny/novel names every year and it would ruin the sense of community and continuity because with so many players no one could remember who anyone was. Please either use something very similar to your current name, or something obviously related to your SDMB name.

I can try for a draft time at 8, but in previous years we had west coasters who would miss the top of the draft because they didn’t get home from work by 5. I figured it was better for people to miss the end of the draft than the beginning - if the draft is running late, you can always buy a few players earlier than you might’ve wanted to fill out your roster. Please ring in if 8 eastern/5 pacific is too early for you.

I’ll look into the schedule thing. IIRC Munch used to do that for us. Would you mind doing it again?

Thanks. That’s what I was wondering about. That seems really stupid of yahoo - why would you auto-renew people leaving everyone guessing whether or not the person actually intends to participate? That’s going to leave a lot of surprise empties on draft day.

Okay then, I definitely need everyone to confirm whether they’re in or out.

I would really like to play in this league again, but I’m in Vegas and vicinity the whole week of the draft–it’s our 5th anniversary, and The Druidess has been planning this trip for months, so I probably can’t make the draft.

I understand how important the live draft is, particularly with the auction format. I’m willing to play with a default/AI picked team, but if you want to replace me with someone that can be there for the draft, I understand and accept that. Your call, SenorBeef.

I think yahoo is automatically re-registering everyone in leagues. It’s nice to not have to chase down my IRL friends to re-enlist, but I can see how it would be a lot more worrying in a league like this.

Everyone gears their pre-draft rankings for a 12 man league, and the scarcity of players in our league changes things dramatically. And not in a way where you can simply add X% to your pre-draft valuations - although obviously that would be better - because so many people are competing over few valuable players we tend to have a lot of unexpected runs where the values go up and down as people become more desperate or fill out their team. It would be really hard to draft from just a pre-valued list.

So I’m inclined to say it’s a bad idea and likely wouldn’t result in a team you’d be happy with. But if we end up short on people this year, and you want to extensively pre-rank players, it could happen. I’ll keep you updated with how that goes.

Sure, if you’re able to make the draft you’re welcome to join us. Give it a week so we can see how the signups this year are going. I really need everyone to check in because of the inexplicable yahoo auto-sign up thing. As of now, the only people I know are actually in are the people who posted this thread, and additionally Garcon’s Cedillia who e-mailed me.

Okay, I just simplified things and made them more clear.

I removed everyone from the league who hasn’t posted to this thread or otherwise confirmed me they’d be playing this year. I then sent out fresh new invites to those people. So now we know that if they’re in the league, they accepted an invite to be there. So you don’t have to post to this thread to confirm you’re in, you can just join the league. If you didn’t get the invite or otherwise have trouble getting back in the league, post or contact me and we’ll solve it.

If you’re not participating this year, please post here so we can work on replacements as early as possible.

I’m going to have to bow out this year. I have to make a cut somewhere, and while I love the draft and the league set-up, the draft alone eats up too much of my time. Sorry.

Alright, thanks for the notice. I find it a bit weird that some people look at the draft as a chore since that’s the most fun part of the year, but I understand cutting back.

I love the first part of the draft. When it’s down to bench players, and I only have $20 left it’s a slog.
