Last year’s thread

We’re in year 9 of this league.

Due to the stupid way yahoo has decided to rework their renewal system, I had to boot everyone from the league and re-invite to your normal yahoo FF e-mail address. Please take the invite to indicate that you’ll be playing this year, otherwise tell us that we need to find a replacement.

As discussed at the end of last year’s thread, we’re going to draft earlier than we usually do this year due to people’s schedules. The draft date is Tuesday, Aug 29 at 8 eastern. If anyone can’t make the start of the draft at 8 eastern, we can push it back 15 or 30 minutes. But if we can all make it, the draft goes long and it’d be good to get it started a little earlier than most leagues.

You must attend the draft to play in this league. Auto drafted teams are not viable due to the structure of it.

Also, please don’t change your name dramatically. I know some people like a new funny name each year, but when we did that no one ever knew who they were playing because the names changed so often. It’s better to be identifiable and have people remember who you are. So either keep something similar to the name you’ve been using in this league, or something close to your SDMB name.

Rule change discussion is always welcome.

I’m going to say I’m out for this year. I work second shift now and just can’t get away from work long enough for the draft unless work is super slow that day.

Alright, we’ll be taking on at least one replacement this year. I got a PM with someone interested so they can have the slot as long as they can attend the draft.

I need confirmation from the following players:

Overly Sentimental, MTRG, brickbacon, Frosted Glass, Wilson, tds1273, VarlosZ, poopiusdickimus. Either take your invite to the league or tell us we’ll need to replace you. I know poopiusdickimus is not on the board and is someone’s friend - I forget who offhand - but if you know him remind him to join up or tell us if he can’t this year.

I actually just sent a reminder to the whole league today. It should be in the normal e-mail you signed up for yahoo FF - in your case it’s your name at gmail. But I can also send you a link that’ll work. I’ll PM it.

Draft season has really snuck up on me. Two weeks away, and I’ve not paid the first speck of attention to prep so far.

Honestly I’m feeling like I’m less interested in NFL overall. It’s just so…skeevy? I feel a little dirty for involving myself with the 32 greedy, hypocritical, old-white-man oligarchs who own the league, and their patsy Goodell.

Yeah, I’m getting worn out with the NFL but that’s probably just from being the fan of a shitty team. Then again it seems like the went from unstoppable juggernaught to something everyone is tired of in the space of 2 years.

Does anyone like the idea of, say, doubling the amount of money we draft with to 400? The purpose would be to increase granularity at the low end of the rosters. Towards the end, so many bids are for a dollar or two and someone has to outbid them by a dollar when the money is getting short. Having more money would make that phase more granular, so you’d have more room to manuever for small bids. The difference between $10-13 gives more room to manuever than between $5-6, and people might be able to have a little bidding war in the $1-4 range at the very end instead of just deciding whether or not to double the bid by going from $1-2. It’d be a pretty minor change but I thought I might float the idea.

I don’t think it really matters, as it will just be blown on the top end players as usual.

It would follow the same expected economic trends as any market.

What he said. If we were going from $40 to $400, I think it would make a difference, but there is enough potential granularity at $200 already.

Here’s how every draft has gone for me:

  1. Maybe I should leave some extra cash so I can choose my bench
  2. Whoops, spent all my money on two players
  3. Time to go to bed and see how auto-draft did in the morning

Other than Wilson, the other 3 missing players here are not active on the boards, and I’ve sent them two invites. I’m not sure how else to contact them. It’s pretty late to leave us hanging. I’m going to work on potentially recruiting people to replace them.

Does anyone have any friends who might be interested in our league who can attend the draft?

Sorry for the delay - I’m in. Hoping to improve on my 19th place finish, or at least to continue my skill at jinxing RBs by way overpaying for them.

Sure, I’m going to give the pending invites a few more days but if there are open spots one of them is yours, Motu.

I sort of like it. I expect that the psychology will not follow expected patterns, that is, the top players will likely double ($47 to $90 for A. Brown, say) but the bulk of players will still go in the $10-$25 range. Then when we get to the “$1 players”, bidders will have more money for guys they forgot about, guys that fall through the cracks, etc., and gives more tactical leverage to would-be disruptive bidders.

We’ve had a few people in various leagues not check in yet. I started a recruiting thread listing the vacancies. I’m going to give everyone a little while longer to check in, but I’ll have to start replacing people soon. If you’re interested in picking up another league, you can share your interest in one of those.

As for this league, Motu will be first up to grab one of the slot if MTRG or tds1273 don’t show up . We may be recruiting from another.
