i just learned that **peekercpa **has passed away. he was primarily on mafia threads so he may not be familiar to most of you. farewell, peeker! rest in peace.

That’s terrible. He was a dedicated and fun mafia player. I remember playing as Town with him in his first (I think) Dope mafia game, where it went down to the wire. He always struck me as a salt-of-the-earth type, good guy. RIP, peekercpa.

I remember my first game here. Had no idea what he was talking about. I kept thinking my English was rubbish. Then I got to know him - and all of a sudden he made perfect sense.

Way back when, during a game, peeker made an offhanded reference during night-time that he had to get to Nordstrom and Brooks Brothers. I made some kind of joke about ho ho, look at the fancy man, and he said give me your address, I’ll get you some ties, too. And I said that’s really nice, but get out of here.

So he PMed me and said, and I quote, because I still have it:

i was told long ago that you have to give back.

i have been given much.

so, i am buying a tie. i will leave it on the side of the road if you don’t want the fucker.

Three days later I get not one but two of the nicest ties I’ve ever owned in the mail. He had no way of knowing this - he didn’t know me from a total stranger and his justification was “you seemed young” or something - but I was a public defender for an extremely stingy county at the time, so 1. these were things I could use and 2. these were things I wasn’t buying myself. They’re still my favorites. Every time somebody compliments me on the purple one, especially, which happens all the time, I tell them the whole story. Think about it all the time.

Someday somebody’s just going to get some ties in the mail. Rest in peace.

I’m sorry to hear that. He was always a lot of fun to play with, and sounds like he was a very goodhearted person to. IIRC every game we played together we were on opposing sides and he always won. In his honor I will say something I never thought would cross my lips:Go Spurs Go!

peekercpa used to play in the Straight Dope Poker League. He was great fun.

not unexpected.

i am a cpa and i have a collection of curious george dolls as a result of an incident that happened when i was really rolling.

a buddy and i won an auction where we got a private plane flight to houston to see the spurs play the rockets. so we load up the wives and use basically the whole day getting hammered beyond belief. so we get in this six seater which is stocked with all sorts of cordials which i freely engaged in. and he let smoking occur in his plane so i am basically in heaven. we are about 15 minutes into the flight when i notice this button on the window that i am sitting next to that says “do not push during flight”. my buddies wife is about 7 months preggers and my wife is really kind of just basically tolerating this nonsense. but this button is really bugging me. so, of course, i had to push it. well fuck i didn’t know what happens when a window opens about 4 - 6 inches when you are around 20k feet. fuck, sucked my beer and cig out the window. the pilot was kind of cool. he basically told us to hold on because we were going to make a rapid descent. and the whole time that we were making the blitzkreig dive towards columbus my buddy and wife are leaning over me trying to pull the damn window shut. and i was just like whoooaaaa this is a trip. i think the buddie’s wife was just trying to not go into labor.

fucking limo picked us up at the airport, we had courtside seats and the spurs won.

the pregger wife rode in front with the pilot on the way back and i did not get a window seat.

the next monday at work i had a collection of curious george dolls and memorabilia on my desk (apparantly the story had made the rounds at work). i have been peekercpa ever since.
