Last year’s thread

We’re going into the 10th year of our league, believe it or not. And it sort of existed in the form of a different league with some of the same players a year before that.

The NFL schedule is unusual this year and is pushed up almost a week. We typically draft the Thursday after the third preseason game, which is usually Aug 25-29 or so. But this year that would be Sep 3. I don’t think that will conflict with other leagues, but it potentially runs afoul of labor day travel plans. We could either move it back a week (The Thursday after week 2, Aug 27) or move it to another day of the week to be earlier. The Auction league usually drafts the Tuesday before this one, and I generally don’t like to stick them back to back.

I’ve reserved the draft spot for 9pm eastern on Thursday, Sep 3 to preserve our traditional relative time. If that doesn’t work for you, speak up early.

As usual, I prefer everyone keep the same, or similar, name. It’s easier to build familiarity if you aren’t saying “Who’s Tom Brady’s deflated balls? Oh, right, that was Ray Rice’s punching bag last year, who was that again?” - But if you change it, make sure you post about it. If you can’t make it this year, post now so we can work on a replacement. Otherwise we have 8 sign ups already with 4 missing - Omni, Munch, Petey, and Chuck. I’ll send out PMs.

This league has been pretty stable in terms of rules, but I’m always up for suggestion. As usual, I think that all leagues should be auction so I’m going to suggest we switch to auction this year as the best experience, but I’ve been proposing that and it’s unlikely to take. But perhaps some people tried auction for the first time last year and like it. Let me know.

I actually think auction would work well in this league because it’s smaller than most of the SDMB leagues (and thus the draft won’t take eight hours). I am gradually coming around to the idea that auction leagues Are For Real Fantasy Football Players, even though I am much better at snake drafts.

I’m unavailable on the 3rd for a draft date.

I was a little apprehensive about the auction last year only because I have no snake drafts left. In the end, I actually like this draft quite a bit. Like RNATB said, its more reasonable in this league because the timing is good and the values were normal.

I am good for any day that first week, including the 3rd.

Yeah, we auctioned last year, so I don’t think it’s unlikely to take.

I totally forgot that we tried auction last year. That would be the default then unless people didn’t like it and want to go back.

I’ve got 2 drafts vying for the 2nd. I don’t know if Yahoo! will let me do two simultaneously (one is a snake, so it wouldn’t be that much of an issue). If not, whichever league confirms first, I’ll work the other to reschedule.

2nd is fine with me, and again happy to do auction since that gives me one of each in Leagues That Kind of Matter.

D_odds, yahoo says you can do two drafts simultaneously with different browsers. Will that work for you? Otherwise we’ll have to figure out another time.

I think Overly Sentimental is dropping out this year. Omni and Petey haven’t signed up yet. We’re likely to need at least one replacement. If anyone is interested, post to the thread.

Ok, I’m all set. I have no idea how that particular invite went to my worthless old Yahoo! email…go figure.
I don’t know where you guys settled on a draft format but I’m pro-snake draft. Nearly all leagues it seems are auction now, it’d be nice to do something traditional, just for the sake thereof. Date and time is fine.

I can do two at once then, as long as the other doesn’t hop on the auction bandwagon.

I did two drafts at once last year, and it wasn’t a big deal. I actually brought a monitor home from work, and split one draft to it, the other on my home monitor, and had my laptop for quick research. Worked out very well and had enough distraction to help with ignoring the kids for a couple of hours.

Omni hasn’t signed back on or been on the boards for a couple of weeks. I’ll hold the slot open for him longer, especially since he’s been for us for a while, but I may start lining up a potential replacement if he’s not around. Is anyone interested?
