Last year’s thread

Yahoo did something different this year in the way they renewed leagues - everyone from last year is automatically joined again when you renew the league. Which means that I can’t actually know that anyone saw/acknowledged/accepted their invitation, which means we could have people signed up who didn’t know and didn’t intend to play this year.

So to solve that, I booted everyone from the league and then re-invited everyone. You should get it through the normal channels - your yahoo registered e-mail address, and maybe just from the fantasy football page itself.

If you’re not going to play with us this year, tell us now so we can work on replacing you.

I’ve set the draft date to our traditional Thursday after the third preseason week, which is Thursday Sep 1 at 9pm eastern. If this is a problem for you, but you can make other times, speak up as early as possible.

We’ve had a few special rules we’ve been running the last few years. At the end of the auction, leftover dollars are put into the waiver FAAB pool for that player. Trades are commissioner approval - most of them will be approved right away unless there’s something funky and it requires discussion. That allows trading later in the week without having to worry about the 48 hour waiting period. If you’re going to be unable to set your roster before gameday, I’ve allowed conditional roster changes as long as it’s 100% unambiguous. Like “If player X is active, I want him in my RB1 slot, otherwise player Y” - it can’t really be any more nuanced than that. “is starting” is too ambiguous. Mostly just a matter of controlling for injuries and last minute decisions in the event that you can’t change your roster.

I’m pretty happy with all our rules but if you have any idea for changes please suggest them.

Please keep your names similar to your previous names, or to your SDMB names. Changing to a new funny name every year hurts continuity because people can’t remember who is who from year to year.

Also, we’ve done auction drafts the last 2 years. I prefer them and I’ve talked about why I think they’re better. And we kept it last year, so I think people are happy. But if anyone feels like should switch back, we could have a vote.

I’m back in too but I work Thursday nights. If we keep the current draft date then I will definitely pre-rank at least.

I’m back as well and going for the never-before imagined repeat/3x champ status.

I always want to skip out, because fantasy football is the worst, but I never do, because this is my only auction draft and auction drafts are the best. I’m in, and I should be able to make the draft.

We’ve got some slots open in The Big League if anyone would be interested in trying something different. I like to try to recruit from my other leagues first, before open sign ups, since I know you guys are reliable.

The Big League has 20 players which changes the dynamic dramatically. You’ve got to stretch the available talent further and finding sleepers is really important. it also opens up a lot of different strategies to the draft - moreso than other leagues. It’s an auction draft and people approach it with very different strategies.

Because it’s so different, yahoo’s pre-valuing system just won’t work. There’s more money chasing fewer people so the values are different. Which means you must attend the draft if you want to participate in this league. An auto-drafted team is just not viable and would disturb league balance by giving up 14 free wins.

The draft is Tuesday Sep 6 at 8:30 Eastern (may shift to 8:00 if no one objects).

I’m waiting for RNATB to actually sign up, but he indicated to me that he intended to play in a PM. So we should be good to go with last year’s crew. Does anyone want to propose any rule changes or anything?

Frosted Glass, when are you free near that time? Would the day before work for you? The week after that we’ve got two drafts so we’d probably have to go with earlier that week if we were to change it.

Beef, the last date you gave for the draft is when the “Big League” is scheduled. I think we said this one is on Sept 1st.

Do you mean in post 8? That’s a recruitment post for the big league. This league has been scheduled for Sep 1, but I somehow missed Frosted Glass saying he couldn’t make the draft until I re-read the thread today.

I am completely free to draft on Wednesday. My only bad days are Thursdays and Fridays.

Can everyone else make it in Wednesday? If everyone can, I’ll switch the draft date. If one can’t I won’t since we’d be trading one absent player for another. Please chime in if you can make Wednesday at 8:30. I’ll send it out PMs when I get home for people who haven’t responded.

Alright, I sent out a PM and e-mail (redundant due to time crunch, some people don’t check the boards every day) asking if people can switch to Wednesday for the draft. If I can get a reply from everyone the league within 48 hours from now that they’re available to switch, we will. Otherwise we’ll draft on Thursday as planned. Please respond here/pm/e-mail to indicate whether or not you can make the draft on Wednesday.
