Is it every other week yet? Or is that next week? Wanna do somethin' Thursday? Anyone got any ideas? I've got one or two but I'll hold back so as not to get trumped by a better idea.

I do believe it's been an "every other week" since the last one.

And I don't got no suggestions as of now...

Is there any way we can do this next Thursday instead? I'm actually off on the 9th, and it makes it a lot easier for me to make them if I don't have to drag my but up at 5:45 the next morning.

Next week is cool with me. I'm always down for someplace new, but that pizza place we went to a few weeks ago was great.

Next thursday would be better for me as well. (Already had my expensive-eating-out-episode this week.)

My suggestion was used last time so I shall refrain from suggesting places.

As I mentioned in this thread, I will be in NYC Thursday Nov. 8th- Nov. 13th. I'd love to scarf down some local fair with some local Dopers.

(thanks for pointing me towards this thread, dj)

That darn Bobby Stevens!

Mr. Tevya and I are looking forward to our trip and to the Doper Dinner. (Well, I'm sure he'll be looking forward to the dinner as soon as I tell him about it.)

I assume dalovindj meant John's Pizza. I'd be up for that again. (It wasn't too expensive, which is kinda important to me at the moment!)

I think I had dinner at Khyber Pass last time I was in NYC. It was pretty good. It's listed on the site in my last post.

Well, I'm talkin' Brooklyn any way!

200 5th has the advantage of being about a block away from me. The bar menu is reasonably priced. It can get crowded.

Loki Lounge does not have food, but the livingrooms in the back are a great place to argue creation vs evolution. It also has the advantage of being about 4 blocks away from me. (The review is in the middle of the page. The list is in alphabetical order.)

[utl="http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/11484105"]The Chip Shop[/url] has got good eats and Murphy's. It's small though. It has the added luxury of being about 10 blocks away from me.

Coco Roco has the best Peruvian food outside of Machu Picchu. No seating problems if we make reservations. The chicken is cheap. In addition to the great food, it has the fact that it's across the street from The Chip Shop going for it.

Coco Roco sounds good to me! I've never had Peruvian food but it sounds delicious. The Chip Shop sounds good, but it looks like it contains all high cholesterol food. Unfortunately that is a no-no for Mr. Tevya.

The batter-dipped, deep-fried Mars bar is a bit too much.

My son ordered that thing. It's dusted with powdered sugar. It is a heart attack on a plate.

I didn't go to the pizza place (think that was the week of TP's sister's wedding. Someone also mentioned someplace in Alphabet City, didn't they? Was it Cajun Man? Think it was Paul's, or some other guy's name?

Paul's is in the East Village. Yummy yummy burgers for cheap.

Paul's has the added benefit of being nowhere NEAR where I live.

But then again, so's Brooklyn. And so's John's Pizzeria.

Shall we vote?

If it's a rather large gathering, John's would probably be best. But if not, I'm gonna vote for Paul's. And now biggirl's gonna get mad at me for not addressing the Brooklyn issue...

Much as I love Brooklyn . . .

I think Manhattan works better for getting alot of people their easily. John's has cheap pizza, pitchers, and a beautiful mural of Manhattan (insert mod joke). I think that's my vote, with a second choice of Pauls.

Perhaps not this time (it can be a bit pricey), but eventually, I think a great place is Carmines. It's a family style place. You order for the table, a big salad, a big pasta dish, a big chicken dish, a seafood dish, and everyone takes a little bit. there is one in the Times Square area, and one on the upper East (I think) side. Great place.

That's O.K ::sniff::. I'll just sit here in my lonely old borough all by myself.

No, no, don't worry about me ::sniff::. I'll be fine, just fine. You all go and have a good time. ::sob::.

If I can get either Pain or Heartache to come into Manhattan, I'll be there. I may be there without them, but it wouldn't be a good thing.

I thought Paul's sounded interesting, with John's second. I haven't been to either, tho. Manhattan over Brooklyn. I will be taking the LIRR into Penn. TP is 2 blocks from Penn. Sorry BG.

Paul's becomes a little difficult to work with if there are more than 8 people...

Mmmm. Carmine's is fun and yummy too!

I'd be all for a weekend thing in Brooklyn, but a weeknight thing is hard for me to manage. Midtown is really convenient for me, but anywhere in Manhattan will do. That Flight 451 place was good.

The Carmine's on the upper West side is both overpriced and highly, highly overrated. I would not suggest it.

I'll put my vote in for John's followed by Paul's. Though, anything would really work.

Biggirl, why don't we all try to arrange a Saturday thing in Brooklyn some time? Manhattan is easier for me during the week (as lurker pointed out), but I do want to try to make it to Brooklyn some time...

The latest news is: I'll won't be able to be in NYC on Thursday. Instead, I'll be arriving on Friday, Nov. 9th. Enjoy the pizza and have a beer for me. Now, if we wanted to do a Brooklyn thing Saturday November 10th, I'm all about that.

*bump*

So, any more ideas for Thursday night or are we going to do John's?

tevya, Saturday in Brooklyn might work for me. I have to check to see what's going on here this weekend, but if we can do a small get together, I'll see what I can do about being there.

Is that the place you guys went to the weekend I had my sister's wedding (around the begining of October?) I'd be up for that. Actually, I'm up for any resonably priced place where I can get lots of alcohol and good food, with plenty of room to talk to Dopers I haven't seen in awhile.

Nah, I don't have many qualifications!

Think there's one in the Village, and one in the Theater district. They went to the latter, I think.

Oh. Ok. Shows what a newbie New Yorker I am.

Either would be fine with me. And what time are we gonna start this? Around 6:30 or 7? If it's a little later, I can always take lurker out to do some "Ooh! Honey!" shopping.

John's in the Village (the original John's) is indeed smaller than its Midtown counterpart. So, I called them and asked if they could accommodate a group of 12-15 people this Thursday, sevenish. No problem.

What say youse guys?

There's actually another John's on 65th Street off Broadway (and there may be one or two more by now). Perhaps we could do a tour of the John's of New York City (um, John's Pizza that is).

Have fun gang. I'll be back in a week or two (weather permitting). Perhaps someone could feel dalovindj's nuts on my behalf.

Better that than all the various Ray's (Famous Ray's, Original Ray's, Ray's of GV...). Before the end of that one, we'd be hearing "Disperse. Your group is so fat, you are tipping Manhattan Island...."
