I mean really. I've never liked manufactured bands and singers on principle, but I was flipping through channels, saw her latest on mtv, and it's just RANDOM NOISE! It looks like whoever writes them just gave up and said sing to the beat. And then forgot the beat.

I mean, really, I didn't like her other stuff either, but at least it was recognisably music.

Oh, and I'm really getting sick of letter for number substitution. And excessive brackets. "I'm a Slave 4 U" "Baby Hit me (one more time)" or whatever.

This probably qualifies as a massive understatement of the obvious. Not that it didn't need to be said, but something about it just strikes me as futile. It's like saying, "Man it hurts when you smash my toe with a ball peen hammer." It's obvious, and yet needs to be declared loudly, so that maybe, finally someone, somewhere will begin to notice that, what they think they are listening to is not actually music, but something generated to mesmerize young minds so throroughly that they don't even know they are mesmerized, and therefore be ever more oblivious to the obscene amounts of money and energy being sucked away from anything which might actually contribute to human experience.

I've found it helps to turn down the volume, lock the door, and break out the kleenex.

I always find it funny when someone describes music they don't like as "not actually music." While Britney isn't something I listen to on a regular basis, I don't mind listening to this song (watching the video is a seperate issue entirely).

I work at a Camelot Music( to be known as FYE in a matter of months) and we were forced to listen to her new album in it's entirety and not only did it blow goat, it was probably the raunchiest pop record i've heard in a looong time. I cringe everytime a 12 year old girl buys this..it's just not right. Don't even get me started on Dream Streat...

I appreciate mindless pop music as next as the next person - well, as long as the next person appreciates mindless pop music, but even I couldn't stand "I'm a Slave 4 U". Yuck!

Damn.

I love Britney's new CD. Every song on it.

I hope I have the opportunity to stop at a red light very soon beside each and every one of you.

Please, for the love of Pete, say that was some kind of cruel, sick joke.

I'm going to go hurl now.

So...I probably shouldn't confess that I like the song, right? I like a handful of hers. They're not the heavy alternative stuff I usually like, but...they're nice.

For those who have heard both, which is the greater desecration: Britney's version of "Satisfaction" or her version of "I Love Rock 'N' Roll"?

Exactly.

Okay, I am not a fan of Britney Spears. She is obviously a spooky media creation. I don't have any of her albums, and I can't see myself ever buying any. However, if I am dancing, her pop songs have a beat and can be fun to dance to.

Except for this newest one. I saw the video, and it is a terrible song! It didn't have a beat, it was entirely unmemorable! Literally; I don't recall the name, and I can't hum the chorus. But the video wasn't...Britney rolling around on the beach with some guy, baring as much breast as possible. I am not a prude, but I was entirely disgusted - it was beyond blatant. The camera would actually rest on her breasts for three or four seconds at a time. "Look! Music isn't important! Good taste isn't important! BREASTS! IT'S ALL ABOUT BREASTS!" She's like a very dull imitation of Madonna.

Y'know, the song ain't that bad.

I saw the video and came out with a non-negative opinion of the song. "It doesn't suck," I think I said. But, I could've been umm, influenced, by the video.

So, I kept my opinion to myself. Then, the other day, I heard it on the radio and didn't change channels right away. To my surprise, I kept it on the same station for the whole song. Hmm.

I'll posit that it's different from her usual fluff, and is very much more electronic than one would expect a Britney Spears single to be.

I wonder if she really will turn out to be the next Madonna...

Is this the Slave 4 U song? I kinda like that one.

I've liked a few of her songs, regrettably. As I get older catchy bubblegum pop songs are more and more appealing. I still listen to Slayer, though. 8^)

Mkay, the song I was referring above to is not the Slave 4 You song. It's another, slower, truly hideous song. The Slave song you can at least dance to. The video, you can do, um, other stuff to.

"I'm not a Girl, not yet a Woman"? It's the only slow song on the CD, honestly. And it's not the best, but it's not horrible either.

And who can't help but laugh when Britney shouts "I'm not a girl!" <long pause> .. "Not yet a woman" ;>

Actually, Kyla is talking about "Don't Let Me be the Last to Know" off "Oops...I did it Again." Of course, I don't understand at all where the criticism is coming from, the video was excellent, from my point of view...

P.S. I think Britney's been beyond blatant since releasing a video entitled "Hit Me Baby One More Time" where she masqueraded around mostly as a Catholic school girl. Not that I'm complaining.

I really, really hate to admit it, but I actually really like that song.

Its got great tempo, and slightly Prince-esque lyrics. I note the title - did he in fact write it?

I was wondering the same thing, but Britney did not say a word about that on the MTV special last week promoting the new album...

...um, I mean, uh...I HEARD someone talking about that Britney special on MTV and...

...oh...OK...dammit, you caught me!

FWIW, I really don't like the song, but there is something about Britney that doesn't really make me hate her. I liked several songs on the "Oops" CD. She seems to me like a pretty level-headed girl...I mean WOMAN...I mean not yet a woman or whatever...Damn this is giving me a headache.
