(Old) March forth into victory in the MMP!

Is your friend maybe autistic? I have a child who eats about ten discrete foods, but he eats them in large quantities, so he still grows. My understanding is that food issues, avoidance of new foods, avoidance of certain smells/textures can be lifelong. I have a number of autistic adult friends with similarly limited palettes.

The thing that really gets me is that my son, who will eat roughly ten things, eventually gets sick of eating the same thing over and over and stops eating that thing, without starting to eat a different thing, so the number of things he’s willing to eat continually dwindles. I’m like, kid, if you would be willing to eat more foods, you wouldn’t be so bored with your choices.

Howdy Y’all! I actually donned clothing appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed and did a thing this mornin’. I went to the Dollah Sto’ and bought about sixty bucks worth of Easter stuff to take over to the church house. The folks who do such things will be fillin’ some Easter baskets (I forget how many) and takin’ to the local women’s shelter. I did not buy any candy (but will closer to Easter) but did get some story books for little ones, crayons, markers, bookmarks, and a bag of plastic aigs, things that are on the list of stuff to get. So good deed for the month outta the way. Beyond that sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage and day drinkin’ have ruled the day as is our wont. Sup got cooked and et and the biiiiiig trash can got hauled all the way back up to where it stays durin’ the week. Next up will be Netflix and chill.

And now this…

I live in Tennessee, land of cheap TVA electric. If you are a renter, you cook with electric. Shoot, most of the homeowners cook with it too. I kind of treat it like cooking on a wood range as for initial heat / residual heat.

The headache is coming and going. I think that my neighbor is burning a patchouli candle. I got a whiff beginning yesterday afternoon, then was good for most of the day, but late this afternoon, another whiff and had to take a couple of advil again. Unfortunately, I have issues with a lot of fragrances and it is getting worse as I age. Nelson does offer emotional support though. <3

Happy birthday spicy! Eat more cheesecake and feel better soonest.

I hope that Q’iteh responds well to the meds cookie.

The new vet sounds like s/he knows what’s what about pugs Moooom. Skritches to Higgs.

Yay for feeling better nellie.

I’m finding that drinking iced drinks is helping with the headache. I’ve tried not to sleep today beyond sleeping in so’s I can fall asleep tonight.

I met one lf my new neighbors this morning when I walked Nelson. Turns out that he’s from a small town in northern Indiana that I lived in for about a year and close to where I worked in the auto industry. Considering that the town only has ~2500 people, quite the coincidence.

For years, I’ve put up with fitted sheets that were too deep for my mattress. These fitted sheets were costly and I was damned if I was going to shell out for new ones when the old ones were so nice other than being too deep. The deeper-than-needed cut means that there’s a lot of slack and bagginess in the center of the sheet and you end up sleeping on bunched-up big wrinkles. It sucks.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a new set. Before ordering, I first carefully measured my mattress depth (13 inches) and then hunted online until I found a set which matched it perfectly. It was a bear, too. Most places trumpet how their sheets fit up to 18 inch mattresses!1!1!! Which means they just made them crazy deep and now you can’t return them because they’re too shallow.

I just received the new set, washed it, and made up the bed. My new fitted sheet fits the 13 inch mattress perfectly and the sleeping surface is taut and unwrinkly. I’m looking forward to sleeping on it tonight and not waking up tomorrow morning with a big sheet wrinkle running down my side.

swampy, I love you.

VanGo, I forgot to say earlier how much I like those eclipse boxes. SO cool!

That must be so satisfying!

This is what happened with my lab, only in her case, she didn’t cough but did have episodes when she struggled to breathe for a minute. The vet said it’s common in older dogs. (She was 15, so 3-t years past the usual lifespan of labs.) He also said eventually she wouldn’t be able to come out of it, which terrified me. I’m so glad there’s medicine to help Higgs! (My dog told me when it was her time to go, and it was a gentle, serene passage.)

He’s a specialist. I hear he works pro bone-o.

You sit in a corner and think about what you’ve done.

Poor girl! (Of course there are pug seminars! No matter what the interest, someone is holding a seminar.) I hope the meds help and :scream: about the vet bill.

It wouldn’t surprise me. She doesn’t stop eating anything that she will eat, she just won’t try anything else. Once we were really high and got the screaming munchies. The only thing I had was vanilla ice cream which she couldn’t eat and we certainly were in no shape to be driving. I threw some green food coloring on her ice cream and mixed it up. She SAW me do it, but it didn’t matter. The ice cream was no longer white, so she could eat it.

I’ll go out for a burger with her, but I’m certainly not inviting her to check out the new Thai place in town.

Thank you SO much! The community association gives Easter baskets out to the local kids and will be asking for donations soon. It will make me happy to not be doing last minute panic shopping because I don’t keep track of Easter.

The residual heat is very useful for keeping things warm while trying to finish other things at the same time.

I am noticing this as well. I am kinda sad about it because I used to love fragrances but now I’m conditioned to avoid them because of the headaches.

I’m glad Nelson is helpful, a nice snuggle when your are feeling ick is always comforting.

Hurray! Comfy bed linens are the best.

So, currently I’m making Christmas ornaments. These are the tube shaped ones that look like firecrackers. Traditionally, you stitch the pattern, trim and bind the edges, then roll and sew it into a tube and use a toilet paper roll to stiffen the fabric. The measurements and counts assume the diameter of toilet paper rolls are standard because they always have been in the past.

Not so much anymore. You know how toilet paper rolls have gotten thinner? Well, that extra cardboard had to go somewhere and now the rolls of both brands we have are at least half an inch too fat to fit.

I’m a patient person. I understand that the world is changing and nothing will ever stay the same. I DON’T CARE, THIS JUST ISN’T RIGHT!!!

Arrived safely in Portland, checked into the hotel, and I’m now enjoying a nice pizza and a pint of Dead Guy Ale at a joint called Doughboys Pizzatopia. I’m glad I found this place right down the block from the hotel. It may be my go-to while in town.

It shall be an early night, as the workday begins at 7am.

Well, that is damned accommodating. Well done, everyone!!

SWMBO said we can’t get a baby elephant. Or a bear. :frowning:

We’ll always have otters.

Hi all! I’m alive, just continuing to deal with a lot. Of course things won’t give me a chance to breath but I’m doing my best.

  • Surgery - Everyone that I’ve talked to regarding how I’m healing has been surprised at how quickly my recovery has been. My balance is better, the numbness has retreated into just my hands. There’s one new symptom that should, hopefully, self-rectify. I can’t raise my right arm higher than chest height. Being right handed, it’s been tough but I’m trying to find ways to work it to get better. The only other thing that is annoying is the collar. I’m finding it more and more annoying every day. But, April 2 should be the end of having to wear it.

  • Dad - Dad’s still in some kind of who knows what. We thought he was going to a rehab facility last week but when PT went to get him standing, his BP ended up dropping to 50/30. They’re still working on that and, hopefully, he’ll be in one by the end of this week.

  • The Kids - CtE is officially an adult. Still having trouble thinking of that. They’re working on getting their grades up and trying to work on keeping girl l them on class. They’ve been very helpful lately. BtY… I’m letting him deal with failure. I don’t have the spoons to make him do schoolwork. I barely have the spoons to keep up with my things. So… I expect him to fail and have to either repeat the grade or do summer school. He knows it’s looking that way, but I can’t make him care.

  • Relationships - My relationships are going fairly well. Hubby and I still have our weekly date night and he’s been treating me like a China doll to make sure I don’t do anything to set nap recovery. Things with Partner and I are also going fairly well, though I haven’t had time to spend with him over the last 2 weeks. He started a new job last week and has been doing training for it. Plus, he and his life partner have been moving apartments so most of the rest of his time has been spent moving. We were supposed to see each other tomorrow night, but he’s been called in to work. He’s promised to make sure we’ve got time together next week though to celebrate my 50th (1 week from today) and his 44th (last Friday).

  • Emotional - Today is a rough day for me. 20 years ago today was when the news of Persephone’s death. The day is always tough for me, but this year has been tougher. I think because it’s such a big anniversary. It doesn’t hurt as much as it used to, but I still miss her every day.

I’ll try to come back in with updates more regularly. I know y’all have just been abuzz with curiosity.

Happy Moonday!

Nice morning at the park. It was in the 40s, but by the time we were leaving I was getting hot in my coat.
Some man showed up with two young dogs. He went on the big dog side, we were on the small dog side, and the dogs had a great time running the fence. Barky and Humpy didn’t last too long. Petey dropped out. Even Echo dropped out. She’ll be five this year and is not like she used to be. Rayleigh finally had to take a little break, but Misiu never stopped.
Wore their little asses out.
We left the doggie door open for them. Echo and Rayleigh laid out in the sun all day. Misiu prefers to be inside.
He’s not like Ripple was, but he is a little bit of a mama’s boy.

My son woke me at 530 this morning to let me know that Rayleigh was throwing up. He wanted to take him to the vet, but Rayleigh is okay. I told my son dogs throw up sometimes and that’s just the way they are. Unless they are showing other signs of illness, don’t worry about it.

I reset the check engine light in my truck. So far, it is staying off, so I think everything is okay.
So far, the check has cleared, but I’m going to give it more time before I say everything is good. It’s from the county from when my son had jury duty.
I’ll deal with the gift cards tomorrow.
CVS makes me crazy. I got a text that two scripts were ready. Then a message telling me a third one was ready. Then a message thanking me for picking up the third one. I never picked ir up. I swung by there on the way home from the park and only two were ready. The third one can’t be filled until Wednesday.
WTF?

This is my son’s last week of being laid off. He has not completed my list, so he is going to be busy this week.

{{{FLYTRAP!}}}
Are you going to stick around?

I hope HIggs will be okay.
And your MIL is at peace, FCM

Napped. Had a bacon cheeseburger and an Old Fashioned.

He didn’t have his cleavers or cannon on him, either.

{{{{Fishy}}}}

I must needs fear we will never be dining companions, I trend much like your BFF, trying new things is not something I do on a regular (or even irregular) basis. I know I miss out on a lot of good stuff, but I am what I am.

Happy Birthday Spicy!!!

Hope you sleep well on the new fitted sheet, lucky. I’ve had the same issue at times, nut was to lazy to do anything more than tuck it extra firmly under the mattress.

FCM, sounds like MIL hasn’t lost her spirit yet, considering the remark about nursing homes. Hope she retains what the professionals said and cooperates with you and FCD more. And hope gets to feeling better.

nellie, I think doggio will be so jealous that you came up with the best pun of the week.

swampy, that was a good thing you did.

I know that the season starts earlier and earlier each year, but really…

Wheelie, glad the journey was sate and googled that restaurant, looks like it can handle an appetite.

flytrap is that you? Been awhile, hasn’t it? Hope you’re back to stay.

Real Fish, great news on the surgery recuperation and concur, BtY needs to relate to actions having consequences, which are sometimes negative. And please forgive my ignorance/poor memory, but who is Persephone? Obviously someone who meant a lot to you, I can grok that.

Sari, glad the dogs are doing well, and ain’t computers wonderful? Bet you weren’t the only script that they got wrong. GIGO.

Car has been oiled and lubed and on their recommendation I also had the brake fluid changed. They also said my tires were a bit worn since I have not been real good about getting them rotated but they said they should be good until the next time. I plan to trade the car in for a new one in 2025/26, so don’t need any 60,000/70,000 mile tires, so will do some shopping around. Major duty tomorrow is to get the A/C folks over check out and re-freon the Air Conditioning unit.

Tried to get 1.5 miles of swimming in but I was later than usual and hit the 5pm rush, so onyl got about 1 and 1/8 miles in. Still my weight was down some more, may have to start eating more calories, I don’t need it to drop like a stone.

OK, about 10pm and tired. Need to do some reading and head off to dreamland. Catch y’all on 2sDay.

It’s good to hear from you, I was wondering how things were going.

I don’t think I can remember you ever not dealing with a lot and doing it with your usual grace and aplomb.

I hope things continue progressing in an upwards fashion.

They are small, fast, sparkly and ain’t nobody ever complained about getting handmade Christmas ornaments every year!

Plus, I don’t want to start something big because our mystery piece will start arriving next month and I’m going to want to be able to keep ahead of Mom. We’ve slowly been changing roles, now she’s the one who gets confused and needs help with the tricky bits. I want to have already done what she’s doing so I’ll know how to help.

Applebee’s has burgers. I don’t consider that to be eating out, but I am always happy to share a meal with a friend.

Why is she so mean to you :sob:

Yeah! Tired dogs are good dogs

I’m glad the check engine light hasn’t gone back on, hopefully you just didn’t tighten the gas cap last time you filled your tank. That is a very common cause.

It takes a very long time before anyone cancels those checks. The government can’t just take your money without attempting to contact you about it and the jury duty checks are usually so small that nobody wants to deal with them until they are closing out the fiscal year.

I forgot to use all of my unemployment money and forgot the password for my card but was too busy to bother dealing with it, new job and all. I got a letter seven years later asking me to verify my address so they could send me a check.

I was to finally come in tomorrow for training. Oops. Almost all the managers are sick so now I have to wait tol Saturday, meaning I get 4 hours pay the next week! Then have to wait 2 more weeks for another check.
Cannot catch a break. Thankfully, my church will help me by giving me toilet paper. Sigh.

VanGo, may I come out of the corner. I thought about what I did. I’m not sorry, but I did think about it.

Did you tell her you’d feed it, you’d walk it, you’d bathe it? That always works.

realfish, glad to see you’re recuperating so well. Like MetalMouse, I don’t know who Persophone is, but I’m sorry you lost her.

The week is young, and I have great faith in Mr. Doggio.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It is raining.

The important thing is to find out whether Nelson takes insurance, or you will in-cur some serious charges.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/41f with a predicted high of 10c/50f, and cloudy. Weather app says “Today’s fucking weather: Overcast with clouds and fucking sadness.” Hmm…not sure who’s kicked the weather app’s kennel today!

My major accomplishment this morning has been hauling the biiiiiig recycling bin to the kerb for today’s collection. That was after I moved my car out onto the street first thing before it got busy with the school run. Today it’s Shadow’s turn for the vet - he needs his regular blood test to check his thyroid meds are still working ok, and I’ve promised him a mani-pedi because he needs a little spa treatment

Belated happies, Spicey!

Real Fish I’m glad to hear that the recovery is going well, I’ve seen your posts on FB but it’s good to get the full report on here.

Wheelie glad you landed safely and found somewhere good for food. Portland’s a lovely place, we’ve been two or three times on our travels.

Flytrap welcome back!

JtC those ornaments sound lovely, shame that the makers of TP aren’t playing ball though. Shall I send the ninja spiders round to “have words”?

Lucky hurrah for finding the perfect bedding! Mine is usually either slightly too large, or a real battle to get over the mattress.

Swampy you is a good 'un, isn’t ya?

Moooom the new vet sounds like she knows much more about pugs, Higgs is in good hands there.

cookie hope Q’itih responds to the new meds. We had some probiotic paste for Shadow when he had a nasty case of squits. He wouldn’t go near it! Fortunately he recovered quickly so much have eaten something that disagreed.

Right…off to get on with a bit of what I’m allegedly paid for…
