Rocky: Rocky loses to Apollo Creed
Rocky II: Rocky beats Apollo Creed
Rocky III: Rocky beats Clubber “Mr. T” Lang with Apollo Creed as his trainer
Rocky IV: Rocky BEats Ivan Drago
Rocky V: Dunno?

He wasn’t even expected to last three rounds with Apollo. His goal was to “go the distance,” last all 15 rounds.

So…, even tho he lost the actual fight, he won a moral victory for the little guy/underdog everywhere.

Considering the fact that Stallone got from The Lords of Flatbush to Rocky and the subsequent success is amazing. A poorly wrought script crammed with careworn cliché, but a film whose gritty style and intimate camerawork ( yes, of course I have an agenda, silly ) drew the viewer right into the dynamic.

In the doldrums of the mid-1970’s, it really was the Best Picture, IMHO.
