Prices at the Pump -- what's happening where you are?

Here on Cape Ann north of Boston, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.80 at my usual station yesterday, and up to a dime higher elsewhere.

Today at the same station it’s $3.35.

What are the prices, yesterday’s and today’s, where you are?

It’s jumped from about $2.59 to hovering around $3 since yesterday

On my way home I passed two gas stations that had their pumps completely roped off, thanks to that fake panic. I saw another guy with his trunk open and about six gas cans ready to be filled.

I filled up this morning, so I’m good.

One station I passed on the way to work advertised $2.999 and on the way home it was $3.199.

Local news just said the Dallas are average today is $2.69 for regular with prices over $3 spotted in some areas.

West Hartford, Connecticut: Tuesday–2.65; tonight–3.19.

Down here we’re unusual, we’re a US jurisdiction but we sell gas by the litre (yet tax it by the gallon, go figure).

Some locations in PR it rose from around US$0.66/litre (2.50/gal) to 0.88/litre (3.34/gal) between Tuesday and today. Near where I work it went from .68 (2.58/gal) to .78 (2.96/gal). Near home it went from .66 to .72 (2.74/gal).

Barely six weeks ago I could easily find it for 0.56 (2.12/gal)(*) – we normally have lower prices at the pump than stateside because of (a) lower taxes and (b) we’re close to Venezuela. But fat lotta help that was now…

Circle K’s that were at 2.75/gal around town on Wednesday were 2.99/gal today.

The gas station near my house was 2.63/gal Tuesday evening, 2.71/gal Wednesday evening through early afternoon, then jumped to 2.81/gal around 2pm today.

Wow, I wouldn’t have guessed that gas would be higher than average in my area, but seeing comparisons here I guess it is. It was 2.99 before and today I paid 3.35. That was one of the cheaper stations, on the way home I passed one with a price of 3.49.

Yesterday morning, Hartford, CT: $3.00 for premium at a Mobil.
This morning, Hartford, CT: $2.96 for premium at a Mobil.
This afternoon, Hartford, CT: $3.20 for premium at a Mobil.
This evening, Orange, CT: $3.40 for premium at a Mobil.
This evening, Orange, CT: $3.70 for premium at a Shell.

This afternoon, 9 gallons of gas cost us $31.50. It’s $3.19 a gallon here.

Wow. Just wow.

Robin

Suffolk County , Long Island, NY:

I’ve seen prices range from 3.09 to 3.69 a gallon (regular).
One place had 2.89 on their sign but they had long run out of gas.

Just tanked up at 2.99 per; that was “silver” grade mind you, since all the regular unleaded is sold out. Not too bad.

Marietta, OH (SE on the Ohio river)

Yesterday morning: $2.64/gallon

Yesterday afternoon: $3.09/gallon

Today (Friday monrning, 2 September, Toronto):
On the way to work, passing the usual stations, one had $1.34/L ( ), one $1.33/L, one was unmarked, and the other was $1.26/L. That’s USD 4.27 per US gallon, 4.24, and 4.01. I expect the prices will fall back some by the end of the day.

I’m going up north tonight. I was planning to hand $20 to my friend and say, “Here’s twenty litres”. Now it may well have to be $25…

Yesterday regular was $2.89/gallon at my usual station; today its 2.99/gallon.

Albany, NY - about $3.19 for regular
4 hours north of Albany (Massena) - $3.59 for regular at Stewarts, $3.10 at BJ’s

Southern Ohio - Wednesday morning, 2.49, Wednesday evening, 3.09.

I’m not understanding why the big spike all of a sudden. Isn’t the gas we’re buying now gas that was here before the refineries were shut down in the Gulf?

Down here in Miami, gas is about $3.10. It was that high on Wednesday, at least (don’t know what it is right now).

I was going to start a similar thread to this yesterday.

Here is middle Tennessee gas is about $2.99/gal but there is one station near where my wife works which was $2.38 on Tuesday morning, $2.47 on Tuesday afternoon and $2.99 on Wednesday evening. That is a jump of 13% in less than 48 hours. It is crazy.

The most expensive I have seen gas here is $3.09. All the above prices are for regular.

According to one gas station owner on the news yesterday, yes. He’s the only one they found who hadn’t raised their prices for the hell of it and won’t raise them at all until his costs go up. According to him it is just price gouging.

Between 2pm Tuesday and 3:30pm Wednesday all the stations in my area jumped from $2.57 to $3.01. I only saw one station yesterday, and none today, so I can’t say if it’s gone up even more.
