An Gadaí, great list! I’m going to have to check these out! (I’m really sorry I missed the NE Ohio Dopefest when you were here at Christmas.) Any recording I’ve ever heard of The Sally Gardens makes me cry. I love the King’s Singers version.

I grew up in a very Catholic Irish-American family. We’d always have Father Gallagher over for dinner on St. Patrick’s Day, and all the Clancy Brothers w/ Tommy Makem LPs would get a workout.

My mom switched from Bushmills to Jameson when she was told Bushmills was the Orange whiskey. Perhaps you can corroborate that.

Don’t forget Dropkick Murphy’s “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” (I think you’ll find it on The Departed soundtrack) or anything by Floggin’ Molly!

Nickel Creek’s “Leaves Fall” and “Scotch & Chocolate” are great also. Do you have The Barra MacNeill’s “Sealliaibh Curaidh Eoghainn”?

The Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy has been my St. Patrick’s standard for the past few years. OK, not traditional, but my favorite line is

“And if the boys wanna fight, you better let 'em!”

Which is how many of my St. Patrick’s parties seem to go! :stuck_out_tongue:

Dropkick Murphys - Captain Kelly’s Kitchen
Dexy’s Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen
Malarkey Brothers - Finegans Wake (there’s also a Dropkick Murphy’s version)
The Pogue’s - Jack’s Hero’s
House of Pain - Jump Around (because why the heck not)
Black 47 - Funky Céilí
The Pogues - Whiskey in the Jar
Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies

Carbon Leaf - “Mary Mac”

I can’t believe it took 5 posts for someone to mention Black 47.

I find most of the stuff by Black '47, Flogging Molly and The Dropkick Murphys a bit jarring. I think its the accents on the singers. I do love* Drunken Lullabies* and The DMs do a nice version of The Green Fields of France.

I can’t believe I forgot The Boys are back in town and Jump Around! Duly added!

Exactly what I came in here to post - Black47*.

  • Who are also playing at my local Irish pub tonight…

My St Patrick’s day playlists always consist of The Rovers, The Rankin Family, Great Big Sea, The Dubliners, Leahy, Natalie McMaster, Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly with a couple Pogues songs tossed in for good measure.

Actually they aren’t exclusively St Patrick’s day playlists (if I decide I don’t want to watch tv I’m likely to put a mix like that on to play while I just relax and knit) but they always come out on that day.

What a wonderful list! I’d add anything from The Green Fields of America: Live in Concert. Especially “Kilkelly.”

What do you think of Powers Gold Label? I’m not much of a whiskey drinker, but like it a lot.

Now wait, you’re going to do Irish Music and leave out:
Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) by Thin Lizzy from Black Rose
Blood of Emeralds by Gary Moore from After the War
Wild Frontier by Gary Moore from Wild Frontier
I’ve asked this before but are there any Irish hard rock/metal bands out there? I don’t care for Dropkick Murphys, the Pogues, or Flogging Molly. I’m looking for something like Thin Lizzy and other guitar bands. I’ve had a hard time finding any.

Pistols at dawn, sir!

For my contribution to the playlist, I would add anything from Sinead O’Connor’s The Lion and the Cobra.

Almost anything by Gaelic Storm.

I like House of Pain. There, I said it.

It’s not traditional Irish, but if I were to do a St Paddy’s day list, it would include U2 and The Cranberries.

Mine is a mix of Irish, Scottish, and Breton.

Old Blind Dogs

Donal Lunny

Saw Doctors ( cant believe no one mentioned them yet!)

Kornog

Bothy Band

Moving Hearts

Horslips

Silly Wizard

House of Pain are great. Jump Around should be the National Anthem of Ireland.

Déanta
Sileas
Cherish The Ladies

I don’t know if it’s a cover or not, but Garth Brooks has a beautiful, sad little song called Ireland.
