I must apologize to you about the following thread. It started out as my recommendation to you about the TV show “The Americans”. I recently watched this show for a second time. I had seen it for the first time earlier this year and I very much enjoyed it both the first time I saw it as well as the times I watched it in reruns earlier this week. I honestly believe this is one of the very best TV shows I have ever seen.
This show is about Soviet agents who were planted in the USA when they were young and grew up speaking English like an American and they became very difficult to tell apart from any other American citizen. But they remained deadly and ruthless Soviet agents (aka spies).
I found The Americans was most excellent to watch in reruns. I was looking through many of the newer TV shows that I had seen earlier this year in the hope I might find some that I enjoyed watching again. But, unfortunately, I found hardlyl any. The Americans was the one big exception. I loved it the first time I saw it (earlier this year) and also when I watched it again this past week. So I wanted to recommend it to you in case you’d never seen it before or you are looking for something entertaining to watch in reruns. I wanted to recommend it to you because I found watching its reruns to be just as enjoyable as watching it for the first time. I cannot say enough good things about this show.
It is one of the very best TV shows that has come along in many years. I just loved it and I hope that you will too.
Unfortunately, I’m sorry, but I seem to have fallen off track with this thread. I began by listing many TV shows and movies that I enjoyed when they first came out. But I got off track because there were just so many that I found myself unable to list them all or describe them all. As a result, I was left with a very large list that I wanted to describe to you in case you had never seen them before. So, I had to cut things short and I will simply leave you with this sad incomplete list in case you may find anything here that you haven’t seen before but that you’d like to take a chance on seeing now. I’m very sorry if you find this list to be a kind of “mess”. But I do hope you may find some enjoyable shows here among the turkeys. I know there is some kind of parable or saying that describes finding a “rose” among the “turkeys” or something like that.

Now that summer is almost over and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of new TV shows being produced, I wanted to try and find some movies or TV show that you might enjoy watching in reruns?
I recently found myself with a lot of time and several movies and shows and I started looking for some that would be entertaining to watch in reruns. But, it seems like most of the recent movies and TV shows are very similar.
To begin, the following are all quite excellent. If you have never seen any of these, you might want to take a look at them. They were all most excellent when I first saw them:
Band of Brothers, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Deadwood, Downton Abbey, Fargo, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, The Wire.
Most all of the following were produced quite recently and you may enjoy watching them in reruns or watching them for the first time if you had never seen them before:
Movies about the White House being taken over by armed terrorists. (Olympus has Fallen, White House Down).
Shows about historical events involving violence (The Hatfields and The McCoys (excellent 3 part TV movie, Peaky Blinders, etc.)
Shows about comic book heroes (Arrow, Flash, Captain America).
Sows about vampires (The Originals, The Strain).
Shows about supernatural monsters (Penny Dreadful, Reign of Fire).
Shows about the history of the personal computer (Halt & Catch Fire and Silicon Valley are both excellent but not so much in reruns).
Shows about older detectives who use their brains instead of their bodies (Lovejoy, Longmire, The Rockford Files)
Shows about mysteries involving the police (Crisis, Hannibal, Justified, Murder in the First, The Leftovers, )
Shows about interesting detectives - both police detectives and private detectives. (Broadchurch, Southland, The Fall).
Shows about police or prison cultures (Chicago PD, Orange is the New Black)
Anyway, I tried a few of the shows that I liked when they were in production and I must admit I was surprised because I figured that shows like Game of Thrones and Fargo would have been at the top of my list. But they weren’t. They were both excellent when I saw them the first time, but not so great in reruns. Perhaps I just need to wait another year or so and then, they I may enjoy them more.
The one show that was the biggest surprise for me was The Americans. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching reruns of that show and I just wanted to encourage you all to give it a try if you haven’t yet seen it or you are looking for something excellent to watch in reruns.
