Summer Reruns Imminent: Recommendations?

Here we are, poised on the cusp of season finales and season reruns. Thanks to the new DVR, I’m wondering which series reruns are worth recording starting now? (I haven’t watched primetime tv in a decade.)

Battlestar Galactica (watched Seasons 1 and 2.0 on dvd)
Grey’s Anatomy (watched S1 on dvd)
Veronica Mars (watched S1 on dvd)
House (waiting the “long wait” on Netflix for S1)

In order to capture the full season, timing is important. Is there anything else I shouldn’t miss?

Hubby and I were commenting last night that **Bones ** has improved greatly since its pilot. Yeah, it still has some cheezy stuff like the 3-D modeling sparkly doohickey, and it’s often not believable, but Zoe Deschanel, David Boreanez, and the supporting cast are all fun to watch.

Other stuff we had season passes to this year:
**The Office
My Name is Earl
Big Love
Family Guy
American Dad
Lost
Mythbusters
Stargate: Atlantis ** (worth watching just for Dr. McKay, IMHO)
Dr. Who
Srubs

Make that Emily Deschanel.

brightpenny, Boston Legal is good, and some of the recurring characters are kinda fun, especially Ed Begley Jr. as a sex researcher. Or you could just fast-forward every scene that doesn’t have Shatner or Spader in it.

You might be a tad late with Veronica. I think the reruns started this week.

I’m a fan of “Supernatural” which just finished its first season. It’s quite goofy at times, but I really like it.

Battlestar, if you’ve seen that much you need to see the rest for sure. I second the recommendation of Boston Legal… and agree with the Shatner/Spader part too - the rest is good but those two are brilliant. Grey’s Anatomy was even more of a sissy soap opera in season 2 than in season 1, if it’s possible - if that’s your thing you’ll enjoy it (and nothing wrong if it is!), but I am done with it forever at this point. Umm… what else do I like on TV… not all that much, really. My Name is Earl is pretty funny as well.

I am not the target audience of most of the stuff on TV right now… I would say things like “get the West Wing reruns from the early seasons on Bravo” or “look out for South Park reruns from seasons 4-6 on Comedy Central”. So find stuff that you like and run with it

The networks did not want me watching Supernatural (it kept being put on opposite Earl/Office) so this summer I plan on catching up with taht show.

jsgoddess, I did catch *Veronica *in time  . Supernatural might be fun, or else hokey, but the boys are pretty and the pilot airs this coming Thursday, so I’ll take a look. As far as Boston Legal, I’m not sure…

Kiros, I liked Grey’s Anatomy in the first season, but don’t usually like Desperate Housewives-type soaps. I’ll still take a look at Grey’s.

Any other must-see sf, besides Battlestar Galactica?

I’m glad you caught Veronica. That’s a great show.

As for the boys on Supernatural? Jensen Ackles is the sexiest thing on TV. Somehow. Overbite and all!

Curses! This is almost as bad as the time I confused Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton! Grrr!

With the possible exception of JD Morgan, who you can catch on both Supernatural *and * Grey’s Anatomy.

I just bought season one of Veronica Mars, and I’m going to start watching tonight. I’m looking forward to it.

“Criminal Minds,” an intelligent crime solving show with a great cast that had the misfortune of running against “Lost.” Wednesday nights, 9:00 ET, CBS

Don’t limit yourself to reruns. “The 4400” and “Rescue Me” both start their third season soon.

I’d planned to rent S1&2 of The 4400 because it sounded good. Do those shows have a new season during the summer? Can you tell me more about them, or their network?

Yes, season 3 starts June 11. It airs Sundays, and USA Network is a cable network. You should be able to find it.

If you like cop shows, and it doesn’t ahve to have an ongoing underlying story, I like Cold Case.

“The 4400” is on USA and its season starts June 11[sup]th[/sup]. You really should see the first two seasons before getting into the third. The gist of the first season (only 5 episodes because this was originally a miniseries) is that, one night in Washington State, 4400 people that had disappeared over the course of 40 years reappear all at once, without having aged. Nobody knows why, except possibly one young man but he’s in a coma. As time goes on, every one of the 4400 discovers that they have been given a special power, from healing the sick to being exceptionally good with plant life.

Complicating matters, the 4400 quickly becomes 4401–one of them became pregnant while she was gone and the father is apparently another who had been missing.

Also on USA is “Monk”; its 6[sup]th[/sup]season starts in July.
“Rescue Me” is on FX and starts its new season on May 30[sup]th[/sup]. It’s the story of a group of men–and one woman–at FDNY Engine 62, centered one firefighter named Tommy Gavin, played by Denis Leary. Gavin is very good at what he does but is prone to having conversations with dead people (one such instance resulted in a fellow firefighter being hurt). He’s divorced (the first season had him living across the street from his ex and kids), has a bad temper, and a drinking problem.

Denis Leary comes from a family of firefighters and is keeping his show as realisitc as possible.

Cold Case is a show I quite enjoy when I watch and then I don’t spend much time thinking about once it’s over. It can be manipulative, but boy oh boy can it make me sad. I think it’s the saddest show, week after week, that I’ve ever watched.

Good info. I found this:

The 4400 Special: Unlocking the Secrets highlights The 4400’s key characters and story arc through clips from the first two seasons. *The 4400 Special *can be seen on-air on Sunday, June 4 at 10/9C on USA. The entire day will focus on re-telling the saga of The 4400 as USA presents The 4400 Marathon: The Essential Episodes, featuring 13 pivotal episodes on starting at 9AM/8C, and leading into the The 4400 Special that same night.

I’m having a heck of a time trying to find out when Season 2 reruns of House begin, either on Fox or USA. Does anyone know?
