Summer TV -- how/will you be watching?

It’s Thursday. Earl, The Office, Supernatural and Ugly Betty are repeats. Heroes and Lost and Idol are over. There are a couple episodes left of The Shield and The Sopranos, and one new Boston Legal. Rescue Me and some new HBO shows are starting soon, but other than that, it’s summer doldrums for TV.

I don’t watch a lot of TV but I’ll miss new eps of my favorite shows.

I’m curious about whether Doper TV watchers will abandon the set, watch repeats of favorites, or give repeats of new shows (the ones that lasted) a first look.

I have been stockpiling “The Shield” and “The Riches” for viewing during the summer. I also have several episodes of “Jericho” and “The Dresden Files” on DVD that we haven’t watched yet. And the last two episodes of “The Apprentice,” which may go unwatched because neither my husband nor I give a damn about any of the contestants.

What summer series are going to be on? What about that firefighter show? (forgot the name)

Rescue Me premieres June 13th.

We don’t watch much network, so our viewing habits won’t change much. Food Network, movies, maybe some reruns.

D’oh, thanks pinkfreud (and Auntie Pam). I’ll probably watch Rescue Me at first to see where it’s going before I decide. Last season got strange…

Also I’ll be watching on dvd: Season 3 of Desperate Housewives, and I’ll testdrive Eureka, Season 1 and Psych, Season 1. I’m still catching up with Boston Legal and Grey’s Anatomy on dvd as well.

It sure did. And we saw way too much Tommy getting laid. Is that what happens when you’re the star/producer/writer/etc.? You get all the action?

Well, last season of Rescue Me was pretty crappy, but I have to check it out just to see how many times my house shows up (they were filming on my street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn off and on for about a month). Same reason I even bothered with The Black Donnellys at all.

I intend to watch Traveller, but not until I get the word that ABC isn’t gonna cancel it before it gets the chance to air.

I still have A LOT of stuff to catch up on. The entire run of Alias. The one season of Invasion. The first three seasons of Battlestar (I’ve only watched the miniseries so far). The first season of Eureka. The first four seasons of Cold Case (I’ve watched a couple episodes, so I think that’ll be my cop show fix for the summer). The entire runs so far of The Dead Zone, Smallville, The Unit and The Wire. Heck, I still need to check out Twin Peaks and Quantum Leap too! So I have no lack of new-to-me television to keep me busy this summer.

If I’m barking up the wrong tree on any of these, please stop me.

“Traveler” on ABC might catch me, although the fact that it’s another extended mystery arc sort of show that doesn’t have a full season commitment makes me nervous. The people who brought us “Survivor” are bringing us a reality show about people acting like pirates, so I might give that a shot.

“Kyle XY” is returning and I’ll watch that. GSN is airing the 2007 World Series of Blackjack and I’ll probably end up watching that.

I’m looking forward to new episodes of Eureka this summer. Stargate SG-1 is in its final run and Stargate Atlantis is airing new episodes.

I’ve been DVRing and watching all the Enterprise episodes–they’ve been running four eps every Monday on SciFi. I’ve watched a bunch of them already and I’ve also got about 30 of them unwatched on my DVR right now.

And though I’m kind of ashamed to admit it, I’ll probably be watching Big Brother when it starts up again this summer.

My daughter wants to take a look at Army Wives, so we’ll see how it turns out. She says it has the potential to be very good, or very bad. And we’re waiting for the new season of The Closer. Other than that, oh well, lots of stereo and probably some movies.

The Closer’s new season starts in June, and I’m looking forward to that. Also HBO’s Big Love starts up again this summer.

I’ll catch the reruns of Bones, because I missed the first half of the season.

There’s a series showing on Lifetime, of all channels, that I want to catch the reruns of. It’s called Blood Ties and it’s based on Tanya Huff’s Henry Fitzroy books. I caught one mid-season episode that was terrible, but I want to see a few more before I give up on it.

In my Netflix queue is the American version of The Office (just finished the UK version), season five of Scrubs, Extras, and Second Sight series 2.

We probably won’t watch any real time TV from here on out - aside from that last episode of “House” next week. The little one is at a stage where her sleep time is too variable to count on watching anything and there’s not much I care about durring the summer. Also, we only have the very most basic-est cable.

It’s all TV via Netflix for the summer. We started season 2 of Veronica Mars last night and I think we’ll follow that up with Season 2 of Hustle. There’s a lot we want to see and even more we want to try, so we’re set for the summer.

We’ve even discussed taking this through into the fall. Aside from “Lost” and “The Office”, we might let everything else go to DVD before we watch it. But chances are by the time fall rolls around, we’ll be back on the TV bandwagon again.

Forgot about Eureka. So there will be 1 first-run series that we’ll watch, but even then we’ll probably Tivo it.

For me it’s Rescue Me and Big Love. I was hoping that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia would start up along with Rescue Me but apparently it won’t start until “late summer” according to FX’s website. The pirate show looks like fun too. Entourage will continue on past the upcoming finale of The Sopranos so there is still that to watch as well. I’m willing to give Lil’ Bush on Comedy Central a try as well…hopefully it’ll be better than “That’s My Bush…”

As a reality TV slut, summer is my season – all the cheesiest shows are on. I’m planning to check out the pirate show, plus jump back on the “So You Think You Can Dance” bandwagon (which I forgot started this week, so I missed last night). Other than that – Netflix, mostly. I just don’t watch TV much any more – there are nights when I don’t even turn it on.

Yeah, I’ll have to catch Pirate Master, too, for reasons already well known.

HBO is starting several new series soon. I think that’s because so many of their series have ended in the last few years. John from Cincinnati starts after the Sopranos ends, and it’s gotten a lot of buzz.

As for Traveler, I think it’s running for eight episodes during the summer and that will be the entire storyline. So perhaps we won’t be left hanging. I think, by the way, that series with defined storylines may be the next big thing.

Hell’s Kitchen.

That’ll be about it.

I’ll have to let Mom know after checking if new episodes will air on a channel we get.

We’d be watching Top Chef 3, except for the problem of it only airs on Bravo and Canada Bravo is not the same as American Bravo (not even close) so we’ll have to wait until it shows up on Food.

That new pirates reality show starts next week, and the following week the new Hell’s Kitchen does.

I’ll try and catch up with Supernatural, Lost and Heroes on my computer too. If I have the time.
