The shows we wound up watching regularly this year:
House - sure, it’s another medical mystery show. But the main character makes watching it worthwhile. He’s fantastic. Hilarious. The lines he utters can be ‘spit out your drink’ funny.
Boston Legal - Worth watching for James Spader and William Shatner, both who have so much screen presence it’s astonishing. Crisp writing, beautiful photography and set design, and a strong cast of supporting characters and guest stars makes it even better.
Lost - I have a love/hate relationship with this show. The basic mystery is very compelling, but sometimes the characters act in such stupid ways that you want to throw something at the TV. Still, it’s the show we never miss.
24 - Watch this show, OR THOUSANDS COULD DIE. Because everyone likes a good torture scene once in a while. It’s turned into a comic book, but a fun one.
My bad. I misread the upside-down sequence of episodes at the site. House S2 reruns begin on USA June 11, and are rumored to be shown in entirety this summer on Fox on Tuesdays.
Of all the formulaic cop shows out there, *CSI *and Cold Case are the ones I enjoy. *CSI *is definitely better, but Cold Case is a sold “B” in my book-- especially when the show has flashbacks to the late 60s/early 70s. That was high school days for me, and I always like the music and the look people had back then.
As for Lost, it’s great, but if you didn’t watch season 1, forget it. Plus, it’s better to watch it all at once, so wait until the DVDs come out.
Is Rescue Me as sexy as they make it sound on the site? If so, I may have to check it out.
I’m hard to sell on Boston Legal, because Shatner has been such a buffoon in the past. The doughy buffoonery is a hard image to overcome. “Lucy in the Sky…With…Diamonds.”
The thing about Shatner is that you have to understand that he’s not entirely serious about himself. Or rather, sometimes he is, but other times he isn’t, and it’s hard to tell which is which. It’s almost like performance art.
I think when he was young he was deadly serious about his schlock, and that made stuff like The Transformed Man laughably bad. But now he does this stuff with a complete awareness of what it is, and that makes it okay. Just go with it. He’s a lot like Leslie Nielsen this way. He knows how to have fun with his own image.
Thank you for the heads up on the return of The 4400! I think new epsiodes of Deadwood also begin on June 11th as well. Monk should be starting up again soon too.
Other re-runs?
I agree with Boston Legal…great cast, highly entertaining, well-written, clever plot twists.
Also add:
Lost
Desperate Housewives
Surface
Two And A Half Men
Prison Break

And I have a guilty pleasure…I am far from the target age group, but I really like…ohgod, should I admit it here on the boards…oh, why not…
