Reasonable number. We’ll be lucky – after a few days – to get enough Top Finishers from this batch to mix in with the other such winners from Best All-Time Military Movies – Discussion Thread that DinoR’s ideas about a magical 100 won’t leave out any serious contenders for his version of The Playoff.
His ideas are still looking good to me, and the work involved seems manageable – and FUN!
That said, I’m open to other ideas. I’ll still wait until Wednesday before taking any further action on this group.
Have I left out (from the earlier threads anyway) a War Movie that we’ll all be pissed off that got left out?
I think one last overflow poll works. If we get a touch on the big side maybe 8 votes per. I’ll take a look at the top 30 by IMDB you did. ISTR there were a couple we missed there. Did you already include them? If not tomorrow I’ll run them down.
I have not included them yet. But you’re right that maybe we should – at least as Overflow shots. If you’d like to do the searching and posting of them, please do.
I wonder if the popularity of War Movies by Decade bears any resemblance to the counts of Voters by Thread (keeping in mind that five of them – including the Pre-1940 period – were split into two threads each).
Maybe there’s even more to tell from this most-to-least look:

I’d guess that age makes a big difference. I grew up watching war movies from the 1930s, '40s, and '50s on television. I suspect that a great many Dopers are simply unfamiliar with the works of those periods, unless they’re film buffs.
I think the first war movie I saw in the cinema was Guns of Navarone, followed by Hell Is for Heroes and then The Great Escape. I was then 6, 7, 8 years old, respectively.
Since I mentioned earlier that I would be posting new voting thread(s) today, I’ll wait until this evening to do that, in case there are other titles that need to be added.
