I really want to start a collection of 1/18th scale model cars. Theres quite a few brands out there but its hard to tell the quality over the internet. Who makes the highest quality models of metal 1/18 scale cars? I like some of the AutoArt ones but from what I can see on the screen they dont look all the high in detail and quality. Thanks.
Minichamps makes amazing formula 1 models in 1:18 scale. I would think that their line of road cars would be of similar quality. The formula 1 cars are not cheap, however ($60-80). Hotwheels makes some pretty nice 1:18 models of road cars, especially Ferrari, and they can be had for around $25, as I recall. Be careful, those things take up more room than you think!
Well Im not as concerned with price as I am with quality.
I have a small collection of 1:18 cars. I’ve bought Auto Art, Maisto, bburago, Hot Wheels, etc. and they’re all pretty good.
Auto Art has a higher level of quality, though.
A few years ago, Ertl released a series of special Fords to celebrate Ford’s 100th anniversary (under the Precision 100 line).
GMP is the best known of the companies that make 1/18 diecast. I have a couple of their 1/18 scale cars. I have a couple 1/18 scale cars from their muscle car collection.
I have a few 1:18 model cars, but I’ve found I prefer the 1:43 scale.
FWIW, I have a collection of Porsches (including one that is almost exactly like my old 911SC) and an MGB that is exactly (except for not having white piping on the seat, and having RHD) like my hopefully-soon-to-be-finished MGB. (I have a 1:18 MGB in the same sceme as well. )
Thanks, now Im lusting for one of those GT40s and those are not cheap! Beautiful work.
