For me, anyway. Interestingly enough, over here in Germany, they’re releasing it pretty much in wide release tonight. Yes, I get to see it in English, too. There’s a show going on right now, and another at 11 PM (which is the one I have tickets for). So…I’m pretty pumped. If I’m still conscious when I get back, I may post some impressions, since it seems that it won’t open in the States until midnight. (Odd to have differing schedules…usually when that happens it’s a week later in Europe). I have work in the morning, and I have to be up at 6, so getting back at 2 might require that I pass out immediately. Either way, I’m gearing up!
Well, just got back from Episode III, and I have to echo what most of the reviews have said: Star Wars is back. This is without a doubt the best of the prequel trilogy, and in my opinion, it stands up with the original trilogy. The battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin is awesome…just very cool to see how it all came together. Most of the questions about continuity are answered, and it flows pretty well. The dialogue, while still not anything fantastic, is certainly not anything like the first two prequels, and the scenes between Anakin and Padme play out in a relatively realistic and non-cheesy manner. I’ll post in the spoilers threads once everyone else sees it, but I’ve got to say, the movie’s pretty good. And, I have to give Lucas credit here, the final shot is exactly as it needed to be.
I’m curious – do they have a German version prepared? And would that be subtitled or dubbed? Do they have English in some theaters and German in others?
Also, are there any amusing or interesting translations that come to mind? (i.e., does the German version import some of the key English phrases, like “The Force,” or do they use a possibly unwieldy, six-syllable German equivalent?)
Well, I saw the English version. There were 2 theaters playing the Original Version (OV - English), and 2 theaters playing it in German. Usually they dub the voices for the German version, but I only see the German version if I have no other choice, which is rare.
