1 Question of Banishment

If a member of the Board were to be banned, what happens? I don’t believe an e-mail is sent to the banned (there was a question about that from someone, who was then banned for being banned before and re-registering), but how can they be banned from the Board? Gathering from snippets it has something to do with the IP address of the banned member. That may aid in stopping said banned member from re-registering. Does being banned prevent you from even seeing the Board and its posts, or does it prevent you from using your Username, does it keep you from posting at all, etc? How’s that work, I wonder?

Banned people can still read the board. You don’t have to be registered to read it. When you’re banned, the Admins remove posting privileges from your account, so you can’t post anything using your username.

I don’t know what they do using the IP addresses, though. It might be blocking IP addresses from registering, or from logging on, or something else entirely.

Whether a notifying email is sent to the transgressor depends on the circumstances. Usually people know exactly why they were banned, they were warned several times, and don’t need an email.

From the FAQ.

Kat: I believe the IP address totally blocks you, you can’t read, you can’t register, you simply get a screem saying that the administrator has blocked your IP address. I believe you can email the admins from the screen.

It’s been awhile but when it was happening it was very frustrating. I post from all over now, and it apparently cleared up. Perhaps they don’t block anymore.

I remember, also, in December of last year the hamsters went on strike, and I really thought the board had run away from me and changed it’s name so I couldn’t find it. I cried for a week, but then got over it and finally found the temporary board. Then they switched back and here we are and I’m still posting.

Maybe an admin can explain it better.

Say a user has a family member/roommate/houseguest who signs up, but is then banned. How does that effect original said member?

The member sends an e-mail to the admins, and explains the situation. If the admins believe him/her, then they correct the situation in whatever manner they deem most fit.

Chronos has it correct. email a Mod (or Amidn.) They are VERY considerate, are acommoidanting and willing to help.

This is a great Board with even greater Bods (Strikeout that. I meant Mods!)

'MODS" and Administators!

Yep. Them too.!

can a bammed person come back if they plead for forgiveness? I believe I heard someone here say that have been banned like 4 times , but I assumed that he was kidding.

I just realized that in the title of the OP, “banning” is referred to as “banishment”. I think that sounds much much better, and we should adopt it immediately. BANNED is three times as geeky and only half as cool as BANISHED.

People have returned under different screen names and had those names banned. I think it was Krispy Original you saw (within the past few days) say he’d been banned four times … said that in IMHO, BBQ Pit or MPSIMS (A thread I read today).

There have been a few people who were banned and then (usually) unbanned and who have remained solid members since. I can think of only one person for whom that was not the case.

Who is this one person that the case does not apply to?

If I understand what iampunha is saying correctly (he can only remember one user who was banned, unbanned, and then did not remain a solid member), I think he’s referring to Silo, who was banned, unbanned, and banned again.

Why was Silo Banned twice? Trolling?

Flowerchild, I’m emailing you.

Was there ever a poster called Romeo who was banished?

Or Oedipus? I think in the particular case of Romeo we’d have to see:

Romeo
BANISHÉD

If my memory is correct, he first came to the boards under the name “Michael Masterson” and was banned for some fairly obvious trolling. He apologized and was allowed to come back to the boards under the name “Silo,” but then did something else jerkish which I can’t remember specifically and was booted out permanently.
