10/24 Law & Order spoilers requested - nay begged for!

So, I get home last night at a reasonable time, around 7:/ 7:15 or so, start to catch and A & E presentation of an old L & O (with Chris Noth!!) as a nice warm up for the new episode later on in the evening even tho’ I don’ tlike the new Asst DA, when a series of storms come rumbling in and poof, the power goes out.

damn.

It came back on at 2 am.

So, a little help here??? [whiney voice on] I neeeeeeeed my ‘new episode’ fix. [whiney voice off]

A diamond seller was kidnapped and later found dead with his hand chopped off. They caught the guy who killed him, a Captain in the Sierra Leone army (The african-american actor was the guy from Oz that’s the undercover cop who became a junkie). Turns out he was following orders to recover these “blood” diamonds that were smuggled into the US by some Sewdish diamond company juggernaut. They used to buy their diamonds from disreputable sources, including “Rebels” from Sierra Leone who murdered the diamond mine workers and stole their product. Ther captain thought he was returning them to his people, but he was double-crossed by his lieutenant back in Sierra Leona who was working for the Swedish guy all along. So McCoy went after the CEO of the Swedish company, who happened to be in the US.

Truth be told, IMO it wasn’t a very good episode - the new ADA woman (Elisabeth Röhm) just isn’t selling her lines to me. I hope her acting improves in later episodes, but right now she’s definitely the weakest link. I’ve been a fan since it first came on, b/c I was a Chris Noth fan from the movie Jakarta. Pretty sad that I’ve tuned in to the same TV show for the last 11 years…

thanks!!! ( and I don’t think it’s pathetic at all - I’m there with you as a matter of fact). and totally agree on the new ADA. maybe she’ll get busted in a sting operation or something - now that would be a ‘law & order’ twist !

Minor correction: I believe the diamond dealer was Swiss, not Swedish. And while the episode wasn’t one of the stronger ones, it did highlight a few things about diamonds that too many people don’t know: for one, they’re not particularly rare or valuable. For another, the price is kept artificially high by a monopolistic and opportunistic company. And, far too many people still die over them.

jeweler’s daughter here. I knew that (but thanks for posting it). I personally prefer several different semi precious myself (opals for one, pearls, jade, tourmaline, blue topaz, amber, etc. for those needing to know for gifting purposes  )

I was confused by this episode. Didn’t Girard say that he didn’t order the murder and they let him go?

Oh yeah - I forgot about that - apparently the Colonel betrayed both the Captain and the Swiss guy (sorry about that Sweden thing) and took the stones to some “Eastern faction” back in Sierra Leone. Not much of a surprise ending, IMO.

I’m telling you - there’s a point in every episode that you really need to listen to what McCoy and the ADA are saying, and I found myself stepping away from the story and staring at my TV every single time Elisabeth Röhm spoke. She’s a real distraction, and I hope to GOD she gets better. Although the luck of hiring good actors was bound to end eventually…<sigh>

Every time I look at Elisabeth Rohm, I think, “Wow, her skin really GLOWS!”

I don’t really have a problem with her, per se, but her character doesn’t have much of a back story (when I first read about her hiring, she was supposed to be this really ambitious prosecutor, and that sounded really interesting, but that hasn’t been explored) or any interesting facets of her character that I can latch onto.

I agree about the new ADA. In fact, although I don’t object to attractive women, it is getting a little ridiculous that every new ADA is a gorgeous woman.

I also, surprisingly, am not digging Diane Weist either. I like her in general, but for some reason she ain’t cutting it here for me.
