13 October 2015 Democratic debate (for commentary during & after)

I’m surprised Bernie isn’t president already.

MORE TAXES! FREE COLLEGE! FREE EVERYTHING! RICH PEOPLE ARE EVIL!

Someone get that guy the key to the White House and a drool cup stat!

EAT THE RICH!!!
fnord

Yes we get it, you’d be the first woman President. Check.

I’m confused, is the debate happening right now? I thought it was over already?

“I know we can do it because we are going to make the wealthy pay for it,” said Hillary.

Whoa.

Bernie just endorsed legalizing recreational marijuana! Move here to Nevada, Bernie! :stuck_out_tongue:

Right now on CNN.

Still going. Now discussing how they’d get anything through Congress.

Okay yeah I found this live commentary site First Democratic Debate 2015: Highlights and Analysis - The New York Times

Are debates always over two hours long? For some reason I thought they were shorter than that.

Bernie strikes me as an angry college professor. I’d take his class, but no way does he strike me as presidential

Still behind HRC (though her repetitive “first woman president bit” rubs me the wrong way) but I could live with a candidate Sanders. He could hold his own against a GOP nominee.

That’s a distorted view of Sanders’ position.

Just thought I’d let you know. <3

OMalley is definitely coming off as running for VP with this closing statement, and doing it well.

Okay, this isn’t necessarily how I’d vote or who I’d like to see win, but just how I think it shakes out from this debate:

Hillary Clinton presents herself well, looks knowledgable, competent and strong. I think she’ll retain her front-runner status and see a bump up in the next few days.

Bernie Sanders comes across as justifiably angry, seems knowledgeable and focused, and comes across as someone who will not yield easily. I think he’ll also see a bump up in polls.

Martin O’Malley comes across as smart, calm, knowledgable and thoughtful. I think he’ll also gain some ground from this, but not much.

Jim Webb does not come across well. He seemed like someone from 1978 brought forward to the 21st century. He has no chance at being POTUS and will see a drop in polls, if that’s possible (I haven idea what his polling numbers are today).

Lawrence Chafee also did not come across well and his flubbing of a direct question about his voting record looked awkward as hell. He also has no chance at being POTUS and will likely disappear from polls (although I have no idea what his polling numbers are currently, either) in the next few days.

Aye, I kept thinking that he’s gotta be looking like a terrific VP candidate to Clinton’s camp.

Winnah - Hillary
Loozah - Chafee

According to the recent profile of him in The New Yorker, “angry college professor” is the persona he has deliberately cultivated ever since first assuming office. He rarely makes small talk.

1%er Anderson Cooper has no business accusing the Clintons of being 1%ers, especially when he didn’t mention the Chaffee political dynasty. His attack on Sanders as somehow being responsible for dead veterans was disgusting.

Jim Webb is in the wrong party. The one thing I drew from these debates is that I wouldn’t vote for him.

Your math does not compute. Chafee and Webb combined poll at 2%. There’s no way that Sanders, Clinton, and O’Malley could all gain support from this debate, unless we’re talking in fractions of percents.

The clear winner was the Democratic Party.
