I can’t remember the last time it rained here. Today, morning weather dude Christopher Nance said it’s been 190 days.
And people wonder why I hate it here.

Given you never miss an opportunity to slam L.A. we don’t really wonder why anymore.
Wouldn’t that be a good thing for “flying helicopters and filmmaking”???
Johnny, please leave my state, you turd-faced cock-monkey. You’re blocking my sun.
Yeah, but I don’t fly or shoot every day.
I’m sorry Demo, you seem to have mistaken this for The Pit.
And that’s “Mister turd-faced cock-monkey” to you.
When I lived in the SF Bay Area, it did indeed freak me out that it just does not rain in the summer. Coming from the East Coast, to me, summer=rainy season. It was a bit freaky to have to stop and think hard to remember the last time it rained!
And here in Seattle, it hasn’t been 190 minutes since it has rained.
Come on up, the weather is here. Wish you were beautiful…
I moved from L.A. two years ago to the Silicon Valley, and I’d like to say:
NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH it’s raining today, it’s raining! Beautiful cool, clear rain! Started late last night and as of about noonish today, it’s just starting to clear up.
::taking deep breaths of crystal clear rain-clean air::
Johnny L.A. go play in the sprinklers same effect as rain. And if you want snow go the freezer and get some from the sides.
The first job offer, and I’m outta here! (Actually I’m thinking of moving about half of my stuff into a storage unit in Birch Bay in Nov./Dec. if nothing turns up before then.)
Oh, hush! I work in O.C. and it hasn’t rained yet! And by the time I get home to Hell-A it will probably have stopped raining up there.
Warmest October since 1659 here.
Nothing personal, folks, just a reminder that the US is the only country in the world not signed up to Kyoto - even George says global warming is a fact.
<End of commercial>
OK London Calling, how do they know it is the warmest since 1659. How accurate have the records been kept over the years, how accurate were the measurement devices, and what was the winter of 1658 like? And were you there?
Oh and by-the-way, it is raining in the South Bay (that is south LA county). I can see that the sidewalks are wet from my window. This is only a minor rain which is terrible. It means that freeway traffic will be murder.
Come on out to rain-free Palm Springs. It’s where all you LaLa people want to live, anyway. No sig alerts, plenty of free parking, and golf (tennis/bike/swim/hike) til you drop all within a few minutes’ drive. We love and cherish the rain when it comes, but we don’t count the days in between.
deb2world - Good point and I had no idea but according to this:
http://www.met.fsu.edu/explores/methist.html
Throughout the 17th century, different thermometers were developed, but the scales and accuracy of these instruments were questioned. In 1714, Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit constructed a mercury thermometer which was the first to contain a reliable scale for measuring temperatures as low as the freezing/melting point of water (32F) and as high as the boiling point of water (212F).
And…
Another product of 17th century investigations was the development of an instrument designed to measure atmospheric pressure - the barometer. The invention of the barometer is attributed to Evangelista Torricelli, an Italian mathematician who studied under Galileo. In 1643, Torricelli and a student, Vincenzo Viviani, constructed a vacuum tube and used mercury to measure the weight of the air.
Nope, I wasn’t around. No point until someone invented amplifiers.
It was indeed a very nice rain. I still got to eat lunch in the park (shaded by a tree) and got to walk back in the rain. Since my coworkers already figure I’m insane, walking in dripping wet and grinning broadly didn’t change their opinion of me.
So, the question (for me) is, to I try to be tough and ride the bike home, or play it safe and find some other way? Yeah, if this had been a real storm, I’d take the bike, but with this little bit of rain, the streets will be traction-free.
Since I live in the Valley, it’s been raining off-and-on all day. It’s down to a little drizzle right now, and it smells wonderful. Yay for rain!
Since I live 10 minutes from Java, I have to concur completely!
