1960s rock bands that are still fully intact.

Which bands from the 1960s (having an official release cut 1960-1969) have all their original members still alive? And out of those, which ones are still performing.

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are…

Cream (occassional reunions)
Monkees (no idea if they really count)
Crosby, Stills, and Nash/Young (still together when Crosby is free and conscious)
And, out of morbid curiosity, are any groups completely dead? (I think T-Rex is)

The four original Kinks are all alive and well, and at least 3 of the four are still quite active touring and performing (although not together).

What about Pink Floyd? Not still performing now I think apart from the occassional reunion absent Roger Waters.

All four still alive, unless you count the fact that Syd Baratt left after the first album (and is now dead). So early that only Floyd freaks have ever heard of him…

Love.

Peter, Paul and Mary are still ambulatory.

The Belmonts put out an album pretty recently; no idea if they have the same personnel as back in the day, though. There are iterations of old doo-wop and girl groups that include few (if any) of the classic lineups, like the Clovers and the Marvelettes.

Excluding the drummers, Spinal Tap is still around somewhere…

  1. Syd Barrett is not dead.

  2. As famous crash-and-burns go, Barrett is second only to Stu Sutcliffe.

I think Genesis would squeak in barely.

Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Phil Collins are all still around. Original guitarist Anthony Phillips is still around, although hasn’t played with the band since Trespass. I have no idea if John Mayhew or John Silver (two very early drummers) are still around.

The 5 classic members of Genesis reunited in 1998/99 for a couple of re-released studio tracks.

There’s Yes, of course. There’s also King Crimson but they changed formation every couple of albums - but the performers are definitely all around.
Or the Moody Blues; a couple of members retired, but the remaining three are still touring and recording.

John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, I think. Probably not the most famous of 60s bands, but it started the careers of Clapton and Jeff Beck among others.

To my knowledge, Ginger Baker has always refused to reunite with anyone.
Monkees don’t actually count, but they have never done an original reunion (although I heard they might this year)
CSNY - Young wasn’t part of the original gig, and Crosby has been free and conscious for many years now.

Syd ain’t dead. He’s mentally ill and living with relatives.

I’ve got their (I think) most recent album, Spinning Coin. It’s good.

Jefferson Airplane – at least, the Grace Slick version. There have been reunions, but not in awhile.
Procol Harum
Soft Machine – Not big hitmakers, of course, and pretty much only known in the UK, but they were one of the best bands of the time, known for fusing jazz and rock. They had many lineups, but the members from the first two albums are around, even if Robert Wyatt has been confined to a wheelchair since 1974.

The three of them haven’t reunited, but they’ve appeared together in pairs a few times.

Well, on the pre-punk side of things, there’s The Stooges who are supposed to come out with a new album in 2005 and The Monks got back together a few years ago for a show at Cavestomp and an awesome live album. Paul Revere and the Raiders still tour too, but they don’t really count since Mark Lindsey isn’t there and they tour as a nostalga act.

I’ll pop in to say something completely pointless…
The rock bands in the Grand Canyon have been together for millions of years. Har har.

Coming back on point, I think all the bands have been mentioned here in these few posts. The 60’s were murderous to rock bands, though the popular philosophy of Better Living Through Chemistry didn’t help.

Nonsense! Keith Richards doesn’t look a day over 120!

And if Spinal Tap (minus drummers) is missing – how about the pre-Fab four? The Rutles recently played the 100 Club in Oxford Street, London, and then had a mini-tour…(I know on Anthology it’s only 3 of the originals, but it was the four who appeared on the first record and soundtrack at the recent shows…although Dirk McQuickly seems to have actually been two different people…my brain hurts, never mind…must be too much tea.)

:smack:

Not missing, I meant included!

Definately too much tea…

As Cream? Doing Cream tunes?

Haven’t heard much from Deep Purple lately, but last time I heard, everyone who was ever a member of that band was still alive. Ritchie Blackmore split from the reunited Mark II back in the early or mid nineties, don’t know if they’re still working with Steve Morse or not, but really, if Ritchie Blackmore, John Lord or Ian Paice is missing from the lineup, it really isn’t Deep Purple.
