The Addams Family first season has just recently been released on DVD. I really love how sex-mad Gomez and Morticia were.
Gomez and Morticia were definitely head over heels in love with each other, but still, with other television couples of old when husband and wife were inspired to embrace and kiss each other there was a sense of “Oh, Darling, How I love you so!” but when Gomez and Morticia were inspired to embrace and kiss each other it was more of a sense of “Oh my God! You are so fucking sexy! I must have you now!”
And it was just as much true for Morticia as it was for Gomez. Yes, there were many gags for which Morticia had to calm Gomez down for getting horny at inopportune moments but it was always very clear that she too really enjoyed sex, and truly owned and celebrated her own sexuality. Was this at all groundbreaking for 1964 television (it was before my time)? Particularly the aspect of Morticia as a woman owning her own sexuality?
When Morticia got horny, Carolyn Jones could do this thing with her eyes that told the audience that all the blood had just rushed to her vulva.
Since I never saw the Addams Family until over 20years after it had originally aired, it’s hard for me to view it within the context of the times. In 1964, were Gomez and Morticia Addams the horniest television couple to date?
Even five years later Mike and Carol Brady, who, it was made clear, thoroughly enjoyed each other sexually despite no longer wishing to procreate, weren’t nearly as horny as Gomez and Morticia.
Oh, that was the best part of the Addams Family! I just couldn’t understand why anyone would prefer the Munsters; the obvious love and sexual innuendo between Gomez and Morticia… the dialogue, body language, vocal inflections, facial expressions…everything, it was just so, so…well, sexy, but romantic too! I tuned in just for that (and still do). The Munsters were just silly.
I can’t think of any TV couple right up to the present day that can match Gomez and Morticia for obviously having the hots for one another. I mean, the hots may be expressed more DIRECTLY by more modern, less censored couples, but very often the hots are expressed with a certain wooden, pro forma quality to them. They may say, “I really want to jump your bones,” but the body language, expression, etc., don’t really convey two people who are having major blood surges to their genital regions the way Gomez and Morticia’s did. Of course, I haven’t watched every TV program made since the 60s, so I could easily have missed something.
*Kisses Biffy from the wrist to the elbow…and who knows where else *
Never liked the show but “I Love Lucy” which predated “The Addams Family” was the first show where you got the idea they actually screwed. Which of course they did.
But Cuban or not Morticia and Gomez were a way hotter couple.

Morticia and Gomez even got into S&M onscreen. Remember when Gomez would be tied to the rack in the “playroom”, and Morticia would give the wheel a few turns — just to get that kink out of his back, of course.
Let’s face it, Herman was retarded. Seriously, he seemed to have the IQ of a dump truck. NOT sexy. How anyone could prefer the Munsters to the hot, sexy, kinky Addamses is just beyond me. Morticia… sigh… so classy!
Finally, FINALLY, the original Addams Family TV show is being released on DVD. OK, it is only Volume 1 so far, but still…
The Munsters is available on DVD, The Flying Nun is available on DVD, but it has taken forever for the Addams Family to be available.
Not actually in Australia yet, but mine are due from Amazon this week. Our family has a weekend of couch-lying, popcorn-eating and TV-watching ahead of us.
Let’s not forget to give credit to John Astin’s eyes. My God, they could make anyone (male or female, gay or straight) start tearing their clothes off.
Well, they might not be quite as horny as Gomez and Morticia, but have you guys gone back and watched the Cosbys lately? Good lord, they’re always doin’ it!
