A few weeks after the South Carolina church shooting in 2015, a group of ignorant gun-toting racists terrorized several black families having an 8 year old’s birthday party in a park. Two of those proud people were recently sentenced to prison for their actions. Kayla Norton, 25, received 6 years in prison and 9 years probation, while the father of her children, Joe Torres, 26, received 13 years in prison and 7 years probation. Good riddance.
I would hate to have been that little kid, whose birthday it was.
You know, I feel sorry for their kids too cause damn…their entire family’s ripped apart because of idiotic parents. And wth is she going on about "“But I want you all to know that that is not me” It sure as hell was you. You can’t blame those actions on anyone but yourself. If you weren’t sitting in the courtroom you wouldn’t be sorry at all.
I was just going to say! One sentence in the story linked to in the OP (I didn’t notice that the thread is five years old, but that link is still good) that caught my attention was “Both of them are also banished from Douglas County, [Judge] McClain said.”
It’s routine for a judge to impose a location restriction on someone. Think of protective orders, which often have an element prohibiting approaching or coming within some distance of the complainant.
What would be the difference between than and “stay out of <jurisdiction>”?
As noted, banning convicted criminals from living in certain counties is extremely common in Georgia. In fact judges are allowed to ban perps from up to 157 of Georgia’s 159 counties. (Yeah, Georgia has county issues.)
So two rural counties in SE Georgia are commonly used as the intended dumping ground for convicts. However, since these are poor counties where outsiders are not welcome (and convicts even less so), in effect it is a banishment from the whole state.
In Florida, the laws on where sex offenders are so strict that in many areas they can’t live in any house or apartment legally. They end up living under overpasses and such. (Keep in mind that “sex offender” can include people who got drunk and peed out doors.)
