2000 Bonneville SLE Driver's Door Contols not Working

I am new to the forum as a member but have searched the forum as thoroughly as possible for months now looking for an answer to my problem… I have a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SLE and am currently without power controls on the driver’s door. Having searched everywhere I am finding that my situation is different from most since it all buttons work other than the driver’s door… I have tried many things so I suppose the best way to start this is by posting a breakdown of my situation and what I have tried… My situation is as follows:

First problem - Originally all power controls were not working.

I solved this by tearing out the enter interior and found that I had some major leaks from each sunroof drainage tube, enough to where i had a good 2-3" of water when I tore out the carpet. Corrected the leaks and then corrected the corroded brown wires by replacing the splice that connect all the modules. This gave me power to my other windows (passenger front and back, and drivers back).

Second Problem - With that said, the lights on the drivers door switches work but I get no functionality from any of the switches (windows, mirrors, or locks).

  • I replaced the driver’s door module but that did not fix the issue,
  • I pulled all fuses and verified that there were none blown (for both fuse boxes) - still nothing,
  • “jiggled” all wires while someone pushed buttons on the drivers door - still nothing
  • Since the passenger side front door power locks button works I tried switching it with the driver side power lock switch in hopes that maybe my switches were just fried on that side but when I did that the driver’s power switch worked on the passenger’s door and the passenger’s power switch did not work on the driver’s door - thus affirming that either a connection is missing or something…

I am at my wits end trying solve this problem… I am not sure if there are any other mission critical splices/connections like the brown wire one already corrected but if there are I haven’t seen anyone post about them… Also, I did see some posts about a grounding issues but was not able to figure this part out to know for certain that I completely tested the possible fix…

I am not an electrician but I am usually handy at troubleshooting these issues but this one has me stumped and work has me going on a 8 hour road trip on the toll road so I desperately need my driver side window back… can anyone give any guidance/suggestions on what to check?

I suspect that there is either a poor connection at the a pillar where the door harness plugs in
OR
There is a break in the wires that go from the a pillar to the door from the flexing each time the door is opened and closed.
Pull connector at the a pillar apart, inspect.
Pull the door module and using an ohm meter check each wire for continuity.
One of the two should revel a problem.

Modern cars have many computers including body computers. I did a google and it looks like your car has three body control modules. A lot of things go into a computer first unlike the days when a wire would run directly from a switch to a motor. For example in my wife’s car, you can’t open the trunk while driving. A computer prevents that from happening.

Here’s someone with the opposite problem in that only the driver’s door works! They think it’s the body control module.

I had a 2000 Bonneville and did the same damn thing you had to do, water under the carpets, etc. and when I put it all back together everything worked but the whole driver’s panel didn’t. If I understand your post, that is the same thing you are experiencing, correct? The whole big driver’s panel of controls don’t work?

IIRC isn’t there some crazy lock out button/mechanism that is located off of the module?

As I search, I posted a thread 4 years ago where I never returned with the fix. Yes, it’s a known problem that the 2000ish Bonneville’s leak and water collects in the interior under the carpet. Makes the car smell like unwashed gym socks.

It corrodes the key junction for the power located under the passenger’s seat. It disables all functionality for the other three windows, but the driver’s side worked fine (but no control of the other 3 windows).

I did that laborious fix, and the driver’s panel didn’t work. I can’t remember where I left my car keys 10 minutes ago, so sorry that I’m not more help. For some reason, I remember a lockout function for the whole panel, either a button, switch or wire.
