Everyone is welcome freckafree. Good luck!
Well, I see my surgeon tomorrow for an official weigh-in. I’m not expecting anything spectacular, though. Because of the three week plateau, I suspect I’ve only dropped maybe five pounds this month. Still, that’s much better than the two or three pound gain I undoubtedly would have had if I hadn’t had the surgery!
I don’t post much but I like to check in. I am in ‘maintenance mode’ and not weight loss mode any more, but I had my yearly checkup yesterday and got praise from my Dr. for my weight loss (20 pounds, not as impressive as many of you all but it was enough to get me into a healthy BMI range.) It was nice to get a pat on the back.
I still weigh myself every day but I am used to fluctuations. I give myself a 5 pound range and if I get to the top of it I know it is time to cut back a little. It is easier for me to make little adjustments than to get on the scale after a month and go whoops, where that come from?
When I was tracking my weight I used to let myself enter the ‘new updated weight’ after I had seen it on the scale 2 times. Once was maybe a fluke but that second time was all mine
As an aside, I also lost 20 pounds and then was diagnosed with gall bladder disease. Upon doing research I found gall bladder problems can be triggered by rapid weight loss, but it took me 3 months to lose that 20 so I wouldn’t call my weight loss rapid. But it seems like there may still be a connection there, I had no other risk factors for gall bladder disease. I had surgery and lost 10 more pounds from not being able to eat anything but now I am back at my pre-surgery weight. It wasn’t 10 more pounds I needed to lose, but I was dropping weight at about a pound a day for a while and amidst being horribly ill it was kind of fun to see those numbers on the scale.
Now I also have been diagnosed with acid reflux. It seems unfair to suddenly have all these GI issues after years of having no problems at all. Now that I am eating better and exercising, digestive problems are my reward. Curses! Oh well, I know I am still better off for dropping the weight, but still!
My gall bladder trouble (leading to removal of the damned thing!) was brought on by very low fat eating, followed by a high-fat binge. Not long after that, there was a class action suit against Jenny Craig for gall bladder problems. Seems a day of eating their pre-packaged food in those days, often consisted of fewer than 15g of fat; apparently a lot of people were having sudden gall bladder problems. As a disclaimer, I will say this was almost 19 years ago; I don’t think the Jenny Craig program has such problems now.
Hmmmm…interesting. I followed Self Magazine’s Diet Program online which instructed me to have 50% carbs, 20% protein and 30% fat. I followed it pretty well, so I wouldn’t call that an especially low fat diet. But it does seem like too much of a coincidence that immediately after I lost the weight and went into maintenance mode is when all my trouble started. I didn’t have gallstones though, my gallbladder just pretty much stopped working. The surgeon said it was ‘sludgy.’
My GI specialist still doesn’t know where the heartburn / acid reflux came from. I neverhad trouble with that before having gallbladder surgery, and the severe heartburn / reflux started almost immediately after the surgery, as soon as I started eating again. It’s really odd. Now I have to maintain my weight though, as extra pounds and bad diet make the reflux even worse! So there’s my incentive!
OK, it has been two full weeks and I have had NO candy or cookies! None. The only day I even had any cravings for them was when I had been drinking.
This is big. If it continues I will be quite pleased. Next weekend I will probably have at least one slice of cheesecake, since I am going to a party and I am expected to bring the cheesecake. But other than that, I have been very very good.
We’ll see if this leads to weightloss.
Khadaji, way to exhibit willpower! Yay!
As for me, this past month brought another 8 lbs. lost, for a total of 46 lbs. since June 2nd! Yippee!
184 as of an hour ago when I got home from work and weighed myself for my official weekly weigh-in but probably over 190 at the moment because I was ravenous and just ate a piece of steak, two cans of green beans, some crackers, and a bag of popcorn along with three (soon to be four) cans of diet soda.
…and maybe even another can of green beans. If I didn’t have a Y chromosome, I’d think I was eating for two between the strangeness of the meal and the amount I’m eating. It’s all pretty healthy, though, so I’ve nothing to worry about.
Initial Weight: 360 lbs
Current Weight: 184 lbs
Goal Weight: 150 lbs
176 lbs down; 34 to go.
Good job Aesiron.
After two weeks at a standstill, the scale said 204 this morning. That makes 35.5 lbs lost now. I have two weeks to my followup physical and blood work. I won’t make it under 200 but thats Okay, the goal I set myself was under 200 by September 12th. (my 40th Birthday). I think that is very likely.
I still haven’t started a regular exercise program, but most nights I am either taking a 1 hour walk or bike ride. It was also a very active week for me at work instead of just sitting in my cube. I just cannot get myself motivated to do sit-ups and crunches and similar exercise.
Jim
I got my monthly weight/measurements on Saturday - 17.5 inches and 10 lbs down! I’m pretty happy with myself!
Thats 42.25 inches and 41 lbs in total since March. Me =
Yay, cbire!
BTW, you realize, don’t you, that since you’ve joined an ongoing type of thread, you now have no choice but to pony up the $15.00 to become a member? Just think how much cheaper it is than Jenny Craig!
HA! I thought about that - then I might have to go back to the name I used to be here and then you’d all know me (or probably not really as I hardly caused a stir in the social scene). I was/am Honeydew btw - not that anybody probably remembers that! I didn’t get a chance to get on here for a very long time and this is the first time in about 2 years that I’ve really had the time to spend on here (bar the odd bit of watching from the sidelines that is!). I never participated in this thread before because I was busy putting on the weight then, now I’m busy losing it. Ah, what a wonder world we live in lol…
And congrats to you too on your weightloss! 46lbs since June is pretty damn good (and better than me!)
Well, yeah, but I have the surgery working for me. I think this is the first time in my life I’ve lost weight faster than I’ve ever gained it!
And actually, I do (or should I say “dew”?) remember you!
In a good way I hope :o lol
Definitely.
I’m hopping onto this weight loss train kind of last minute since I joined Weight Watchers last week. So far the flex points plan is pretty easy to follow and I’m enjoying the meetings.
I started dieting and exercising five years ago and within three years I lost about 90 lbs. Yet, I did it the unhealthy way so I was sick all the time. Sure enough, I have gained back over half of what I lost.
Basically, all my excuses to myself are sounding lamer and lamer. Yes, I have genetics working against me and yes, weight is a way to make sure a guy really likes me for me. But my family has heart disease out the wazoo and I’ll actually have to be attractive to get a guy to talk to me.
Weighing myself daily helped me figure out my skinniest days of the week (Sunday and Monday) and that lifted my spirits. Also, it is important to be aware of your menstrual cycle because one week a month you’ll gain even though you’ve “done everything right”. The up side of that is if you continue to stick to your diet, you’ll numerically lose 3 - 4 pounds the next week! The other tip I learned is that it’s important not to eat after 9pm and make sure you eat breakfast. If you don’t eat after 9, you’ll actually be hungry for breakfast for the next morning!
It’s not really “the last minute”; there’ll be an August weight-loss thread starting tomorrow!
Welcome. I’ve had good success at weight-loss with Weight Watchers in the past.
Gaaah.
What with the crazy schedule and crazier food habits caused by moving, I’ve gained 3 lbs. the last month.
Well - if I remember to start it…
Hi AmericanMaid. Welcome to our group. I’ll start a new thread tonight and post a link to it, so check in and share your success!
It’s not the move and food habits that caused that gain; it’s the weight-loss deities expressing their displeasure at the fact that you owe me a full-length email.
Seriously, you know what to do: back to basics. High protein. plenty of water, exercise. That 3 lbs. will fall off in no time. But it couldn’t hurt to email me.
