2007 Weight Loss Club, April

'Course you’d be invited. Hell, I’m invited. They let anybody into these things! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hopefully, someone there will be taking pics to post.

I should bring the camera just in case GingerOfTheNorth decides to do yoga poses again. The woman is very bendy!

Indeed she is! I’m about as flexible as the shell of a hard-boiled egg!

Hope you don’t mind me intruding, since I’m not currently in the club, but I just found again the best lecture I’ve ever heard on the biology of obesity, which totally changed the way I thought about fat. I thought I’d share it with people who are really concerned with this issue.

Especially from about 6 minutes on it was a real eye opener which I wish I’d seen when I was struggling with my diet.

I hope it’s heartening for those of you who are beating yourselves up about slipping or regaining.

Stepped on the scale this morning, two days before official weigh-in, and hadn’t lost anything. Now motivated to get into “boot camp” mode during the weekend–I will be really forcing the vegetables, which I had been slacking off on all week.

To tell the truth, I think there’s something magic about my official weigh-in day, because at this point in the week I’ve never lost anything.

I weighed in this morning, and I’m back up to 173. Course, the fact that I ate everything that didn’t move for the last two weeks might have something to do with that!

I find that I need to stay for the meeting to have a greater commitment to staying on plan.

I’ve heard people rave about these and thought somone might be interested.

7" pizza that only 252 calories.

I guess I haven’t posted in a while … here’s a recap:
Date Scale Moving Average
1/1/07 330.0
2/1/07 312.5 314.8
3/1/07 302.5 305.2
4/1/07 291.5 295.0
4/14/07 288.5 292.5

Still moving the right direction! Rate is dropping, but that had to be expected–that 10-15 pounds/month was obviously not sustainable. Still, I’d like to finish April at more than 5 pounds down …

Went to meeting (sounds like a religious experience, doesn’t it?) this morning. I lost 2.25 pounds! I’m down to 410, with only 5 lbs to go until I’ve lost 10% of my starting weight.

449/410/220 (for now)

That’s WONDERFUL, jayjay. I’m still waaaaay far away from my 10%. You’re doing good!

OK, this morning I’m back down to 170.5…whew! I thought that 172 was gonna stick. The days that my band is playing I always end up moving more (performing and carrying gear) and eating less. The only conclusion I can come to is that I really need to keep the band working so I can lose more weight. Win/Win

I have gotten a bit complacent about intake though and I’m going to watch that a bit more closely.

Have a great week everyone.

MUST share. Just made and tried a recipe I got from the Core board on WW, and it really was lick-the-spoon good. Eggplant spread.

Cut one large or two medium eggplants in half and put them face down on a baking sheet.

Cut the end off one whole head of garlic, drizzle with olive oil, and wrap in foil.

Bake both at 350-400 degrees for 40-50 minutes

Let cool

Scoop flesh of eggplants and garlic cloves into a food processor. Add 1/2c yogurt (I used strained fat-free), the juice of one lemon, 3 T dry parsley, and 1 t salt (to start), and whizz till blended.

Eat with crudite, or on top of your zero-point once-a-day Fiber Rye Wasa.

Ohhhhhhhhhhmygoshsocreamyiloveeggplant.

I gained about a pound and a half last week. But I am still going on. Jayjay and I got a chance to visit with Norinew and GingerOfTheNorth yesterday. It was great to see them both again. They are shadows of thier former selves.

Pictures will be forthcoming.

Oh my goodness that sounds good Sattua I’m going to have to try that.

I’m back up to 172 this morning. I’m sure I need to track my eating better. I’ve been counting on all this walking to keep me losing but I think I’m starting to balance on the intake vs output.

This weekend was the grand opening of a new Publix grocery store in my neighborhood. The guy at the butcher counter said it was a “concept store” unlike any of the other Publixes. It’s way cool because the old Publix (which was right across the street) had an unfortunate parking situation and it was difficult to get into and out of the parking lot.

The really cool thing is that they have an expanded, gourmet produce section and hubby and I were just slap happy over the variety and quality of produce we can now get at our local grocery store. They also have a prime butcher counter and we got some filet mignon for dinner last night that was just perfect. We also had multicolor beets and baby carrots roasted in the oven with chippolini onions. We cut off the beet and carrot greens and ate those too. Just delicious.

This publix also has an expanded Deli section that makes and sells hot food. There’s even a little seating area. We had blackened grouper sandwiches for lunch which were very good and not expensive ($6.99) The other cool thing is a huge organic food section.

Of course since this weekend was the grand opening there were about a million people there. Every check out lane was open and each lane had three people working, one to unload your cart, one to ring the stuff up and one to bag it and load it back into you cart so the wait wasn’t too long but you could barely push a cart around for all the people. Good thing we just came to pick up dinner. A full week’s shopping would have taken forever.

supervenusfreak I can’t wait to see the pictures. Don’t worry too much about a pound and a half. That’ll be gone in no time. When you start to see a trend, that’s when you nee to worry.

Boy am I feeling fat this morning! I actually behaved myself pretty well on Friday, only eating a fruit & walnut salad for breakfast, a sub and a salad for lunch, and a piece of pizza for dinner. What I drank, unfortunately, made up for what I didn’t eat. Throughout the rest of the weekend I ate a lot (Culver’s, Red Lobster, and IHOP). So I was at 179 this morning but I’m pretty sure at least some of it is water weight. One positive thing was that we walked a lot all weekend. It was about 1/4 of a mile between our hotel and the hall where we shot pool, and we walked back and forth between the two several times a day.
Overall we had a pretty good weekend, though unfortunately my grandma ended up in the hospital Thursday night and had to have surgery, so part of my time was spent at the hospital. Not exactly what I had in mind for the weekend, but I was glad we were there so we could go visit her. She’s doing much better now.

Bad weigh-in this morning. 174. Up two pounds from last week.

I did follow the plan. I did stay within my points. Looking back, these things are the possible mistakes I made:

  1. I ate an industrial amount of spaghetti one evening, and smaller amounts the next two days. Maybe pasta is a really bad idea for me.

  2. I had things like chili and spaghetti for lunches instead of salads. Maybe I need to have salads.

  3. I had egg (core) Canadian bacon (core) and fat-free cheese (core) on whole-wheat English muffin (2 pts) sandwiches for breakfast three times. Maybe I really need to eat hot cereal for breakfast.

  4. Unlike in previous weeks, I spaced my points pretty evenly. This might be a mistake because my previous use of points in large numbers on only a couple of days simulates the Wendie plan, which helps a lot of people. So I will try to have some no-point days.

Sigh. Really upset about this.

Don’t be upset Sattua. We all have to make adjustments to our diet and exercise. I know myself that a small gain means that I am doing the right things and that I will keep on losing until I reach my goal.

The new Publix sounds like a great place to shop. Ever since I have been going to Trader Joe’s I have become a bit spoiled when it comes to finding new food that we like and that is good for us here too. It does sound like you are getting plenty of protein, grains, and fruits and veggies too.

Have you tried the messages boards at the weight watchers site? They are an excellent source of information and recipes. Tomorrow I am going to make the crock pot pulled pork with apple gravy.

Thanks, supervenusfreak. Last night before going to bed, I drank a quart of water (a quart!) and almost none of it came back out… so maybe I’m retaining water? I’m also dizzy this morning, even after breakfast and coffee.

velvetjones, that supermarket sounds WONDERFUL. There is nothing better than having access to really good and interesting produce. I usually go to Kroger to buy produce, where there isn’t necessarily a big variety (no fancy heirloom stuff like multicolored beets, for example) but the stuff is in really good condition. Then I go to Super Target for their great grocery items–all kinds of salsa, grains, etc.

My current love affair is with tangelos. They taste like tangerine candy.

A quart of water? That could definitely be water retention. Are you limiting your sodium also? That could help.

The thread with the picture link is here . Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of myself, but I am certain that there will be others…
