2007 Weight Loss Club. January

Good work for sticking to it, brownie.

In a related note, I found 100 calorie Aerobars and 80 calorie KitKat bars at Walmart tonight. Real Chocolate!! Only two points per bar! (okay, they’re really tiny bars, but still)

Jayjay and I have increased our exercising this week. We measured our current walking circuit and found that we were walking 2 miles each time. Both of us have done this circuit every day this week, even with the change in weather here.

OK, this is the first week that I have actually gone back to the diet. I was perfect this week, but much better than I have been in the past 8 or so.

It may be perception, maybe something else, but I found that giving up diet soda again really scaled back the cravings.

I lost 4.8 pounds this week.

Yay Jim!

I lost another 5.8 lbs this week! :). Jayjay and I both did very well this week. Both of us increased our exercise time, walking 2 miles every day, even with the shift in temperatures. Go us!

Wow! Those New Year’s resolutions must be kicking in. Looks like almost everyone is doing great, and finding renewed strength to stick with it!

Weekly check in:

142/138/120

Busy week, with no exercise at all, and it shows. At least I didn’t gain any.

I forgot, band or bypass?

Neither. Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch, often just abbreviated DS. It basically means that, unlike a bypass, which gives you a “pouch”, I still have a fully functional stomach, but it only holds about 4oz. Also, a lot of my lower intestinal tract was bypassed so that I malabsorb most of the fat and some of the protein and complex carbs I eat. The only thing I don’t malabsorb at all is simple carbs, which means I have to watch how much sugar and such I eat, as that could seriously slow or even stall my weight loss.

sounds similar to the band, except for the additional intenstinal bypass

Yep. The restriction idea is very similar. With the DS, though, they actually remove most of the stomach. That means that some part of me is in a medical waste dump somewhere.

Very impressive progress, norinew… Congrats and keep on truckin’!

As for me, I rested on my laurels a bit during the holidays last year between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, slacking off on the workouts by about 50% (without completely stopping) and eating more “cheat foods”. On the other hand, I was still keeping mental track of my overall calorie consumption while eating 4-5 meals a day, and did not gain any weight in that time period (in fact I lost 2 lbs. between Thanksgiving and New Year’s).

I did take the time to document my seven month trip from 242 down to 195 lbs. on my LiveJournal account, which I had just about forgotten existed until my renewal e-mail came up.

I waited about two weeks after New Year’s Eve before returning to my usual workout frequency (4 times a week) to account for the wave of “Irresolutioners” who joined up, flooded the treadmills for a while, then disappeared. It really did take only about two weeks for the volume to return to normal. Sad, isn’t it?

Since New Year’s, my progress has picked up steam again. Half an hour of interval running on the treadmill 4x a week, doing free weights 3 times a week in the evenings, and eating 2500 calories a day (where my computed TDEE is 3000 calories) has me now down to 192 lbs. and about 17.5% body fat. My “love handles” are finally starting to come down!

At this point I’m looking forward to reaching my target body composition of 15% body fat by springtime (which should be around 187 lbs. if I do it right), at which point I will experiment with having a slight calorie surplus and increasing my weight loads to try my first muscle building phase.

Yes… Eeexcellent… Everything is happening according to my plan… Mwhahaha!

Nice work, robardin! I think, when taking a ‘break’ from dieting, too many people give up all the good habits they’ve implemented, and end up re-gaining, which is very discouraging. You did it just right; you cut back on working out instead of stopping. You increased the junk food, but still kept rough track of it in your head instead of saying “screw it” and eating everything in sight. Very, very wise.

Holy @#)*($& !! I was on the road late yesterday, and had hardly eaten anything (under 800 calories) before I headed out. And decided that a few Taco Bell tacos couldn’t be that bad, and running through their drive-thru would be more likely to get me where I was going on time.

So after I get home, I hunt down the nutritional info on their website, to update my meal tracking stats. And … found I’d easily blown past my calorie and fat targets in one stupid meal.

How the hell do they serve meals like this all over the country, and not have an entire country full of fat people. Oh, yeah, we do.

Anyway, lesson learned. Taco Bell is off the list, no matter how many calories I save in my other meals of the day. Jesus, that was scary. And scarier to think how much of that @*)(&$ I put into my body before I started paying attention.

Weighed in yesterday morning, and I’d lost 1.4 pounds. Also managed to exercise three times this week, so I’m pleased.

35 pounds down, 21.6 to go!

Good for you, Katie! I’m sure I’m not down an ounce.

Yay Norinew! I hope to see less of you at Gettydope this year.

I hear you, boy do I hear you! I’ve been limiting myself to the salads from Wendy’s or McD’s - and other than just greens with FF dressing, none of them come in below 400 cals when you add in all the trimmings. McD’s discontinued California Cobb (w or w/o chicken) (which was my favorite) was a whopping 585 (485 without the chicken)

what’s a busy person to do?
