anu-la1979 that’s quite impressive. I think I can do about 3 full body pushups, maybe, on a good day.
Ginger maybe this will be our week to break through the brick wall.
Robardin That’s awesome!
I think I’ve finally got my walking route mapped out so I can get in 10K+ steps on the pedometer and still stop for coffee at Einstein’s some days.
Today’s walk came in at 10,600 something.
I’ve dropped to 103rd place out of 2150 participants in the challenge here at work. If I drop out of the top 150 I don’t win anything. My husband keeps asking me when I got so competitive. It is keeping me motivated so that’s a good thing.
My body can handle the long walks but my feet are complaining. Today they hurt in multiple places.
Well you just lit a fire under me, that’s for sure…
I was feeling OK with my workout including 50 pushups twice a week, then I read here that some slip of a girl (not to dissuade you from your goal of a size 4, but size 6 is not what I’d call “pudgy” unless maybe you’re under 5 feet tall) was up and doing three sets of 20, and I realized that I was not really pushing myself in that area.
Cue the Rocky music, and I pushed myself to see what my true upper limit was… Apparently it’s three sets of 25 or four sets of 20.
Woohoo! I’m at 198 this morning! Another three pounds and I can officially say I’ve lost 50 pounds, which is about halfway to my goal. I think I can safely buy size 20 jeans now and fit into them. My 22’s have gotten pretty loose.
Great going, robardin and anu-la1979!
Velvet, I’m crossing my fingers that you stay in the top 150. How much longer do you have to go?
I bought a pedometer last week. Rain has cut several of my walks short but I did get two 10,000+ ones in. Looks like these clouds should be gone in a bit so I should be able to get another do another 10,000 today.
I’m so excited for work to be over today. It’s soooo nice out and I convinced my husband to walk with me when he gets home from work. I said we’d walk to Subway and eat and then walk home. It’s probably a three-mile walk.
velvetjones, I can’t believe you’re not higher up in the rankings as much as you walk! Are those people walking all day long?
I went to the gym today for the first time in two weeks. During that two weeks, I still worked out, but had to satisfy myself with working out at home, with videos and such. First, the weather was crappy, then my little girl was sick, then I was sick. Finally, it felt good to get back there today! I’ll be going tomorrow, too, if all goes well, and again on Friday. I don’t particularly enjoy working out, but I like what it does for me, and I have to admit I feel good when I’m done.
Me too yellowval but the guy who’s in first place has almost 4 times as many steps as me  Either he’s found a very clever way to cheat or he’s running, alot, and fairly fast. The guy in second place isn’t far behind him but third place is trailing quite a bit so all I can figure is the two at the front of the pack are really putting in the miles. First place is $150
It takes me about 1:20 hours to get in 10000 steps. If this person is running and taking three times as many steps in the same amount of time…you do the math. Still, it does seem like he’d have to be running constantly. And I’d like to gripe about the fairness of this challenge as it includes anonymous participants from all over the company who are of different ages and fitness levels but I guess I have to keep my eye on my fitness goals (or I’ll drive myself crazy0
Meanwhile, this morning, my pedometer fell off my waist band about halfway through my walk (it’s got a tether with an alligator clip and it was just swinging by that) so it didn’t register most of the second half of my walk so what should have been almost 10000 steps ended up being only 6022. :grumble: :grumble: I’ve managed 20K+ steps two days in a row but I’m going to have to add another long walk tonight to make up for that. Balls!
Which is why we break them down. Down 2.1 this week, making my total loss 32.0 in one year. Not as nice as I’d like, but I’ll take it.
I don’t feel like I look any thinner, but I think of it in these terms: Imagine going to the market and buying 32 pounds of hamburger, or about 8 chickens. How full would that make your shopping cart? That’s what I’ve lost. A half-full shopping cart.
Robardin, I am 5’2" and my trainer did tell me I got into “heavy normal” range at this point but I work in a sedentary profession (law) and I think it’s much better that I get into low-normal.
Plus, the trainer is not as much for weight loss since I am diligent about calorie control and cardio-it is about the fact that my mother was diagnosed with osteopenia and we are exploring treatment options to stave off osteoporosis. I am considered very high risk.
Thanks for the clarification anu-la1979 I was wondering. Especially since I don’t think I’ve ever (I’m 5’6") in my adult life been smaller than an 8. If I got down to a 4 or 6 I’d be all skin and bones and I like my curves.
tdn 32 in one year is a very healthy rate of weight loss. I imagine it took you much longer than that to gain 32 lbs so good for you.
I like to think back on when I was at my lowest weight (that was the result of actual sensible eating and exercise rather than pills or shots or fad diets) and it looks like that was around 1994 when my weight was in the middle 130s. By 1998 I was up to the middle 150s, by 2000 the low 170s and in 2005 I hit my highest ever (including when I was pregnant just before delivery) of 185. That’s about 50 lbs over 10 years or about 5 lbs a year give or take with some ups and downs along the way.
I am not a slip of a girl nor am I skin and bones without curves. My family for all that they are lazy sods, have athletic frames and are athletic-looking though they sit around on their asses. Even my sister and father, who are tiny (sis is a size 0) look like soccer players and my sister is quite curvy. Unfortunately I got handed the slower metabolism and have to work at keeping the fat off. I’m an ex-field hockey player and took ballet for a long time so I have a lot of muscle. I’d post a picture of what I look like at size 4, it’s still quite portly IMO and you’d likely be surprised, but I’m not keen on losing my anonymity.
That would be me, hitting the brick wall over and over again. I’ve been at the same 145 for a couple of weeks and can’t seem to break through the 140 mark, which is oh so much closer to my goal of 135. My ideal was to hit 135 before my granddaughters first birthday party on April 7th but that’s not looking very promising now. I will keep plugging along!
I am proud of myself today - weight loss or no weight loss. All of my coworkers ordered Jason’s Deli for lunch today. I LOVE their Beefeater sandwich :::drool::: but I stuck to my plan and came home to have Lean Cuisine at 270 calories rather than the billion or so in a Beefeater.
Now, off to the treadmill before I head back to the office. I hope they are finished with their meals or I may have to resort to licking their wrappers.
My weight today is 176.5, so I think that I’m on a downward trend. I HOPE I’m on a downward trend.
One year ago, I weighed 192.5 pounds.
Two years ago, 210.
3 years ago, 191.5 and pregnant
BUT, as slow going as it’s been, four years ago I was in the high 250s. I need to try to remember that.
I lost about 45 pounds several years ago, and got down to 205, which still looked fat to me, but much better. That was when I got a new girlfriend and had an operation. Goodbye diet, so long exercise. Then last year I weighed myself and I was a whopping 275. So, seven years, 70 pounds.
It is insidious the way it creeps back on. 10 lbs in a year isn’t even 1 lb a month. Not hardly enough to notice until
Ginger those are some impressive numbers when see the overview.
AdoptamomII I’m impressed that you resisted. I, unfortunately, did not. They had leftovers in the break room from a luncheon and I helped myself to a handful of potatoe chips. Probably more than negated that 2000 step walk I took on my lunch break. when will I learn.
Well, as usual, I won’t have numbers until I get weighed at my surgeon’s office next week (Thursday to be exact). However, my clothes are definitely fitting looser (some aren’t fitting at all any more), and I’ve been exercising pretty regularly. So that’s all good.
Excellent! Down 2 lbs this week (HUGE loss for me right now), to 136. 1 lb from my Weight Watchers goal! 135 is supposed to be the max for my age/height, so I just set my goal there and figured when I got there I could lose more if I wanted. I didn’t want to set a goal that was too low to be attainable or healthy.
I think I’ll end up “bottoming out”, so to speak, at somewhere between 125-130.
That’s still up in the air though. I’m looking into joining a gym tonight, Wellbridge. I really want to tone more and I find that I’m more disciplined if I have a gym membership than I am if I try to work out at home. If I get toned enough, I may end up not losing many more pounds.
Remind me to never eat at TGIFriday’s for lunch again. I was so good this week I thought I could treat myself. So I just had a bunch of tasteless calories and I feel like crap.
While I was eating it in the conference room, we all started talking about diet. It was amazing to me how many people in that room – all but two of us – not only admitted to not eating vegetables, EVER, but were also proud of that fact. Well, except for the one girl who confessed that she did like one veggy. Potatoes. Deep fried.
