Seriously, when are the Republicans going to clean house and take back the moderates? If this isn’t a gigantic message to them, I don’t know what is.
Nevada for Obama
Yes, yes it was.
John McCain looked a hundred million times better giving his concession speech than he has in months. I don’t mean in his attitudes, or the content of the speech (although that is true also), I mean the man looked actually physically and almost spiritually RELIEVED. He looked younger, more clear headed… like an enormous burden has been lifted, not exactly the vision of defeat one might have expected.
Huh. Obama may yet get above 350 – he’s just pulled ahead in NC again, at least according to CNN and MSNBC. That and Indiana puts him to … 359, I think.
MSNBC just called Nevada for Obama. YAY!!! 338 EVs so far!!!
Notice no McCain Palin love after his concession. She stuck her hand out to shake his…just shows how much they truly didn’t know one another.
Or 364, then.
we did it!!!
Which states are (or potentially are) upsets from the predictions? Just Indiana?
Yes we did. (No more “can”, we did!)
This was the easy part. Now the hard stuff begins.
You beat me to it.
Well, NC, possibly. I thought it would go pretty solidly Obama, but McCain was leading most of the night and could still pull ahead, I suppose. It’s very close.
Five senate pickups now. 51 + 5 = 56. And they called it for Landrieu. No reverse pickups.
Prospects for 60: Chambliss and McConnell got by (damn). Collins did fine (yay! Sorry, can’t help it, I really like those Maine Republican Senators). Franken is mildly ahead in Minnesota with 41% reporting. Ted Stevens is going down hard when his timezone cometh. That’s 58.
Merkley is ahead of Gordon Smith in Oregon. That would make it 59.
But there just ain’t no 60th.
Along with my tears of happiness, I can’t help but be sad that Obama’s grandmother missed seeing him be elected President.
McCain’s speech was very gracious, but I doubt he would have given a speech as the “Campaigning McCain” without looking like a giant asshole.
I’m refreshing fivethirtyeight.com every other minute and right now the called states map looks exactly like their final prediction map. Still a few states to color in, but no suprises.
McCain said as much in the opening lines of his speech - “The American people have spoken, and they have spoken loudly.”
Sounded like a wake-up call to the party if ever I heard one… just a step from saying Obama got a mandate.
If I had money to bet with, I’d put it on the Republican party deciding that this just proves they weren’t wingnutty ENOUGH. Especially if Bachmann pulls it out…her district still isn’t in, but with 42% reporting, she’s 4% ahead of El Tinklenberg.
i believe mo and mt are still to close to call.
