2008 Presidential Election Results Thread. See it here as they come in.

Two comments that I find very true:

I certainly hope he’s right.

Congratulations to Obama.

I’m not a very emotional person, but I have tears in my eyes.

I have to say, the sentiments from outside the US on this post are really something I willl remember from this night as much as anything else…thank you, all.

Palin isn’t going to speak? Thank you, McCain Campaign. Hopefully, we’ll never have to hear from her again.

A gracious speech from McCain. Where was this McCain during these last few months?

Not like that–they ran an ugly, polarizing campaign and it shows.

Crowds outside the White House are cheering!

Well, fuck.

Oh well. Here comes Olbermann to speak for us.

John McCain, I salute you.
Gov. Palin, get the fuck out and don’t come back!

Wouldn’t you be? He doesn’t have to worry about dying in office and having future generations of children growing up amongst the glowing ruins and being taught to curse his name. Cariboo Barbie will never even lay eyes on the football.

we the people in order to form a more perfect union, have elected barack obama for president of these united states!

Hush. It’s over now. Channel a little of the new old McCain.

Concession speeches are generally not considered effective ways of winning votes.

McCain is classier, it seems, than many of the people who voted for him. It was a very honorable and gracious speech.

Cool, they were playing the Crimson Tide theme song as McCain left the stage.

Now I feel bad for the old bastard. Damnit.

For some reason, I didn’t interpret that as a dig against Obama, but rather, as a dig against the “associations” tactic his campaign had been engaged in in recent weeks.

But I’m a softie who generally interprets people in the kindest possible way so I may be biased.

There’s the John McCain I respected in 2000. Call me naive, but I think he’ll be true to his word.

I really like the speech. Good on him.

Boy, wouldn’t that be nice? I predict, though, that she’ll be an early also-ran in 2012 primaries.
