The Nikkei went up 2.9% apparently based on the expectation of an Obama win.
As did I. And given that here it’s the middle of the day and my workplace is an open plan office, it could be thought to be embarrassing. But I refuse to be embarrassed, if there has even been any occasion that earned real tears, this is it.
I actually like that Michelle doesn’t wear dresses that scream “A fortune was spent on me!!”
Says you. I made the mistake of getting up and going early; apparently so did everyone else in my precinct. Took me two hours.
Now, if the last Ritenour precinct can count their votes so we know if the bond issue passed, we can go to bed.
The lady that raised him died two days ago, without seeing this. If it were me I’d be at 60% max.
I’ve been out most of the night taking my daughter to music lessons and such, so I missed most of the early results.
An amazing election. Fought hard and well by both sides. I’m glad McCain was as gracious as he was in defeat, but I expected nothing less.
Congratulations to all you Obama supporters. Your long national nightmare is over.
Obama’s facing a really tough job, in one of the most difficult times a President has had to try to manage. So he’s going to need a lot of support, and a lot of slack from both sides when he does things he has to do.
Anyway, enjoy the night. It’s been a long time coming.
Who was the other woman on stage with Biden? The woman in the yellow dress was his wife, the older woman his mother, but who was the other blond woman?
Also: awesome speech.
Why is it taking so long to get results from Wayne County, Indiana? I’ve been refreshing that page for the last 40 mins.
BTW, that was an awesome concession speech by McCain. Too bad for him that he didn’t run his campaign along those lines.
I am soooooo looking forward to a president whom I don’t cringe in reaction to every time I see him in a press conference. I don’t know if Obama is going to be able to push his agenda forward, but at least we have someone who we can admire when when we see him on TV every week. This guy has depth. I know he had to do some questionable things during the campaign, but I really have faith that he’ll be a a thoughtful, non-divisive president. What a breath of fresh air.
aaahhhh, joe biden’s mum. her little joey the next v.p. aaaawww.
you can see that obama is restless over his grandmother. for him, he was a bit twichy after the speech.
tonight is great, and he is happy that he won and this bit is over. but you feel he really needs to go to hawaii and take care of and follow through on his toot’s last wishes.
then he will be able to take this all in.
Put me in the petty column because I cringed at the dress too. At least if women are going to emulate the first lady it should be a lot more interesting than the Chanel suits and pillbox hats this time.
It wasn’t quite as good as the one entitled “A More Perfect Union”, speechwise- that was the best political speech I’ve ever heard- but I’ll give it the edge considering the circumstances.
I do have to say I didn’t like the “Yes We Can” after each line toward the end… the way he delivered it kept making me think of that Dave Chappelle skit where he plays a black white supremacist and says “White Power” after every line in his speech.
Congratulations from Canada! You guys did it and we couldn’t be prouder of you.
big, huge, tight, freaking ecstatic hugs
His daughters and sisters. I just saw a photo shoot of them in…Vogue, I think, entitled “The Biden Women” or some such.
I mean old the woman. His mother.
I’m crying too - and the “I love you” from Michelle cranked it up a notch. I feel so proud of us. America done good today.
My favorite line? “I will always listen to you, *especially *when we disagree.” Nothing could speak louder what a difference this will be from the current administration.
And North Carolina is freaking YELLOW, people. Who could have imagined such a thing? (Plus Liddy got kicked to the curb!) I’m joyfully astounded.
Here’s to a president I can truly believe in.
I didn’t think it was a great speech by Obama standards.
I still cried.
Yes indeed. The Independence Party often takes a big chunk of the vote here.
It is worth nothing that the districts with the fewest percentage of votes counted so far are heavily Democratic. That bodes well for Franken.
I lost it right before he talked of the 106 year old woman–that stirring rhetoric that he used to build was amazing. I want to read a transcript of it and I think this speech will go down with Lincoln’s and Roosevelt’s.
I didn’t like Michelle’s dress, but I like that she shops at Gap and J Crew.
Good, because he’s down 16k.
