Doubtful it would’ve been me, Sunspace. Canadian Blood Services thinks my blood is tainted because they’re a bunch of puritannical ninnies. I hear you on the face-blindness thing, tho… I passed another one of the Tronna Dopers in the subway a few weeks ago, and it took me nearly an hour to figure out who that familiar-looking person was.
Spaz, there is no soapbox. The patriarchy has blinded you.
I just ate way too much Indian food. It was delicious, tho.
TGIT. Weekend tomorrow - w00t!!! How am I ever going to adjust back to a 5-day week after this endless procession of public holidays and long weekends???
I’d been thinking of going to the Panto, but doing that when you’re bound to miss half the jokes and alone doesn’t sound like that much fun. So, the nutcracker it is. I had a book (it’s at Mom’s) which was its story, so I know what it’s about. It’s sort of Alice-in-Wonderland-like in that you’re not so much supposed to understand what is going on as enjoy the ride.
Oooh…it’s cold today! No more snow has fallen today, what was on the ground has melted a bit and then froze overnight so the morning commute was fun in that strange and not-funny way.
At least the office is warm, I am refusing to go out until it’s absolutely necessary. Tomorrow I will have to venture out during the day to get some money out of the bank, and in the evening I’ll be digging out the car to get to the supermarket. Until then, I’m just pretending there’s no weather out there at all.
On the home front, we went to the pub for beerverages and sat next to the fire so I could toast my toes. The new washing machine has arrived, been installed and 'im indoors only managed to flood the kitchen twice. At least it meant the floors got mopped!
That’s not exactly a distinguishing characteristic among banks. They’re all stupid in one way or another. (And don’t forget that I work for a bank…)
On the news last night, the weather guy was saying that our upcoming weather will not be a bread and milk storm. I’ve only been here a month, but I’ve heard the words “storm” and “milk” together enough times to realize that people apparently do go to the grocery store and make like locusts at the first hint of inclement weather.
What? They flooded the place with a new washing machine? Twice? The only time I’ve ever made a flood with a washing machine was the time someone forgot to lash down the drain hose into the wall pocket and the hose climbed right out from the pressure of the water squirting out of it. At least it was a front-loader, so it was only about a half-gallon that got out.
Swampy, would you talk to our weather guys? They’re talking about way below freezing, and 30 mph gusty winds, and a wind chill of feels-like-0-10°!!! Damn I wish I was off tomorrow. I’ll have to drive in that shit, and it’s raining today in front of the front.
Mr Rebo will be making chili for our chilly night.
The first time was because he didn’t know he had to turn the water supply off to the hoses before he disconnected them so as soon as he took the hose off, there was water cascading through the cupboard. Second time was because he didn’t think there would be any water in the outlet hose when he pulled that off the connector under the sink - despite the fact I’d told him the the drum still had quite a bit of water in the bottom!
The delivery guys don’t do the installation, they just do the delivering…you have to do the rest of it yourself.
Came close, but not by my hand. We hauled a patient up to Suffolk, and when we tried to leave, the ambulance wouldn’t start. It took an hour to turn up someone to jump us, and it was the Suffolk Fahr Department that did it.
They’re still performing The Nutcracker this long after Xmas? They stop that here by a week before Xmas!
We’re working on the adjustment to a 5-day week this week, Dotty. It’s not particularly fun.
I don’t like people who have conversations in the middle of the hall, right in front of the women’s room door! Don’t block the door. Move over 2 feet and you’ll be out of the way!
I was bad. I grabbed breakfast at McD’s… my stomach is NOT impressed, though my tastebuds relished every moment of it. When will I learn that the brief satisfaction isn’t worth it in the long run? When? sniff
Nutcracker is up here until the next weekend; you need to take into account that, while the Pantos stay put (and are also up until the weekend before school begins again), this was one of the shows that go to three or four places during the Christmas miniseason - for this particular one, Edinburgh was the last leg. There were missing spectators: seats which I know were sold, but which were empty. I imagine it must have been because of the weather, as it’s so cold today that I didn’t take off my sweater at the theater, and I had to keep my hair down for warmth, despite Scotts’ proverbial crush on whomever invented heating.
Been cruising some photo sites grabbing some for the MMP Monday. Funny how little of the entire event I remembered but its all coming back now. Along with several good chances to play “Blackmail” with my friends.
Anybody else have a mental image of Ruble lookin’ at those pics and thinkin’, “Man! Did I do that?!!”
Howdy Y’all! Three down and two to go! WOOHOO!
Rebo’s weather. Lissen up! NO!BAD WEATHER! BAD! BAD WEATHER! No Gusty Winds and Real Below Freezin’ Temps! I said NO! Don’t do it!
Howzat?
BBBobbio glad Vunderkind is still in one piece. You know we look forward to Bambilance Duty tales.
Beast stew and cornbread for dindin. YUM! It’s so nice to have stuff in the freezer to pull out, thaw and heat. I’m thinkin’ chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese sammiches tomorrow night. It’s definitely comfort food week at Chez Cave!
gotti yesterday at work, people were talkin’ about stoppin’ at the store for bread and milk in case we got snow. Around here, I’ve seen snow twice. It barely covered the ground. Matter of fact it was a layer of white on top of brown grass and looked like a cotton field. It melted the second and I do mean second the sun hit it. Yet, people want to stock up. I took care of that though. It warmed up some and even though it’s cloudy and will most likely rain tonight, it will not be below freezin’ or anywhere near cold enough to make like snow. I gots me some mad weather lecturin’ skilz I tells ya!
Home, starting my 4-day weekend. When I left, QA had been completed on our monster project and the lead was making the final typo corrections. I left word that I could be reached by phone, but that I wouldn’t be back till Tues. Yay!
**gotti **- the weather guy here said, in reference to the 1-3" that might hit DC overnight, that this is a 4-pack TP storm, not one of them run-to-Costco-for-the-mega-TP-pack storms. Why people feel they need to stock up on TP when a storm comes is perplexing to me. If you have less than 3 or 4 days’ supply on hand, you’ve got worse problems than a snowstorm. Plus you risk the wrath of swampy!!
Actually, around here, it’s bread, milk, and eggs. Because nothing says “surviving the blizzard” like french toast!
So, do I make dinner or make my sweetie take me out?? Decisions, decisions…
I think you just sceered it down here. That’s what our weather dudes are saying anyway. They are just beside themselves that five or six wayward snowflakes might appear for a nano second some time in the wee hour Friday.
