2010 Masters (discussion thread)

I don’t either ,but compared to Woods…go FIGJAM!

I really wanted to see Freddy win. I had the good fortune to be watching the first round in the Tap Room at Pebble Beach-- what a great venue for that! And what an incredible day it was, looking out across Stillwater Cove. Can hardly wait for the US Open, although it will be a complete mob scene, and I don’t expect to be able to get anywhere near a good spot inside the lodge.

At this point, I’m going to go with Lee Westwood. If Tiger makes the top 5, that’ll actually be a nice achievement considering his time off from golf.

Judging by scores so far today, the course is playing tough. Sergio is merely at +5. Nobody is making a move.

And what percentage of the pros do?

I dislike Tiger, but I wonder if he isn’t going to drive himself crazy by pretending to be somene he isn’t. It is going to be tough enough for him to curb his horndog instincts - should he care to. But then to say on top of that he’s also going to stop swearing and throwing clubs, and give a shit about fans? I think he should just say, “Look, I’m a super-competive asshole. I don’t care if you like my personality, I’m not anyone’s role model. I just WIN!” And see how Nike markets THAT! :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it would be good for his game (as it would for anyone) to be more even keeled. I know that when I play golf, the worst thing to do is get all pissy and upset about bad shots. And that’s something I’ve gotten much better at it. If I can do it, Tiger can, too.

Tiger’s playing about as bad as I’ve ever seen him play. That sand shot that he fluffed was easy for someone like me, let alone a tour pro.

Phil isn’t playing well but is getting lucky. He got two gifts on #3. He also started his eagle-eagle-birdie streak yesterday with his tee shot sailing untouched through the trees.

KJ Choi is rolling everything in, but they’re all for pars. Maybe Westwood will hang on, or maybe Freddie will pull it out. Couples has his own history with women, but you don’t hear about it much. So does Jim Nantz, for that matter.

Golf has a serious groupie culture. Hang around the clubhouse at a PGA event and you’ll see some tremendous eye-candy.

P.S. There was a special on the 1977 Masters before the live coverage started. They’re back to wearing the same clothes again. White belts, checkered pants…

Todays golfers are sticking to solid color shirts, which is a good thing.

Tiger is out.

…and back in, thanks to the Eagle 2.

I though so too until he just holed that approach shot.

I’m find Choi’s charge interesting too.

He’s still 5 off the lead.

Oh, I’m watching partially taped delayed. Should be caught up soon.

I still say Tiger is out.

I like Choi at this point.

If Tiger birdies nine, it’s going to be a really interesting back nine. He just hit his first good drive on #9 all week.

Why is Fred Couples wearing Keds?

He’s wearing boat shoes, w/o socks. Makes his back not hurt (or hurt less).

And the old Phil rears his ugly head…

What are the odds that Phil puts it in the water at 12? I’m guessing 50-50. He tries to play a perfect shot but overrevs it and sucks it back into the water. Pretty much just like last year.

If KJ wins today, will the headline read “Oddjob wins the Masters”? He really needs to wear a black bowler. He already is wearing the black outfit.

I’d take that bet:

Lefty is in a much different position than he was last year. Last year he was still behind his target score and still needed to make birdies.

He still might do it, but he is in a different position.

That’s cruel, don’t dis my man KJ!

(still, I find myself giggling at the thought)

They certainly are obsessing on the Asian angle, aren’t they? One guy has told us three times that Anthony Kim is of Korean heritage. I think they’re terrified that the PGA is going to become like the LPGA, with half of the field named Kim or Choi.

Kim is not playing defensively. He is going after it.
