A pint of Keith’s at D’Arcy McGee’s, watching the Riders, and they’re winning!
Sigh!
Winning ! Un-sigh!
And there’s a Regina rabbit on the field!
Playoffs are clinched with the Roughriders and Argos looking in from the outside (expected in the later case, and kind of hiliarious in the former!) Montreal, at 10-5 are the current league leaders. Go Als Go!!!
I got to sit and explain the major differences between the NFL and CFL to my MOM today as I watched the final minutes of the Als-TiCats game. That was kind of weird. She’s not a huge football fan but several years of SuperBowl parties has given her a basic understanding of the game. She cheered with me in the final minutes when the Als won.
Sigh again.
Well, in the immortal words of Jason Plumb and the Willing:
And who to cheer for next?
Decisions, decisions?
Bellefeuille and the Ti-Cats?
A.C. and the Als?
so many questions…
ALS!! ALS!! ALS!!! Go Larks Go!
How can you not cheer for A.C.? He’s one of the best human beings on the planet!
I can’t wait for tomorrow’s game in Winnipeg: an Als win clinches the East and a hop to the division final for them, a Winnipeg win means they have the first tie-breaker (season series wins) but it becomes a race to the wire for the top of the division.
There’s similar shenanigans happening out West. I want the Ti-Cats to stop the Lion win streak just for fun (and tigers are cooler than lions any day…tigers gots stripes!), although that would put Edmonton at the top of the standings, since they’ll presumably beat the Argos, and that’s just so wrong. Now that it doesn’t matter anymore, will Saskatchewan figure out how to play football against the Stamps?
Fun weekend of football ahead!
I’m pulling for the Blue Bombers, so you can rest assured Montreal will end out clinching the East.
Still, at least they didn’t go after each other with snow shovels in practice this season nor did their head coach flip the bird or commit any domestic violence…

And they say Winnipeg isn’t a dangerous city…!
;p
OMG as of this posting Saskatchewan have posted THREE points. One more point and they beat their previous 3 game average!
Oski-wee-wee!
Oski-wah-wah!
Holy Maciknaw!
Ti-Cats! Eat’em Raw!
I’ve heard that Larks are a tasty dish!
Better luck next year, mnemosyne!
Dude, you’re a Roughrider’s fan. At least we made it to the dance, and made a game of it!
Though that was both a fun game (highest scoring CFL playoff game ever, apparently) and a disappointing one! Montreal’s pass defence has sucked this year - missing the majority of your secondary will do that for you. I honestly think a healthy team could have put in a three-peat, but alas, it was not to be.
Congrats to the Ti-Cats…I’m not even all that upset. I did live in Hamilton for a time, and occasionally get sentimental (though you couldn’t pay me enough to move back!)
My husband injured himself on Friday and we spent the night in the ER…with Shea Emry (Alouettes middle linebacker). He’d been out since August with a concussion but was due to be reactivated…until he got food poisoning. I blame whoever fed him whatever he ate for the loss! I was kinda star-struck and incredibly amazed at the sheer size of him; just solid muscle. Kinda cute too.
Sorry to hear about your husband’s accident - hope all’s well
If it’ any consolation the Piper Cub was cheering for the “blue & red guys” because he liked the birds on their helmets.
Thanks - he’s feeling much better. It was a freak thing that won’t have any long-term effects. More scary than anything else, though he was in pain (and still is for a bit… should improve over the week).
Piper Cub is a good kid. I’m glad he can recognize a good team when he sees one Emry was wearing a t-shirt with an incredibly aggressive and bad-ass looking bird on it. It doesn’t seem to be in the Als store, though.
So, any predictions for tomorrow? Lions v. Esks, and Bombers v. Ti-Cats. I’m going Oski-wee-wee all the oski-way-way!
I don’t wish any success on the Ti-Cats after preying on my Alouettes badly depleted defensive line, but at the same time, I feel for Kevin Glenn and wouldn’t mind him winning a Grey Cup. He earned it; but for breaking his arm in '07 it was all but his. Ryan Dimwitted was the best thing to happen to Saskatchewan in 20 years, it’s only fitting that he plays there now.
Lions vs Blue Bombers. I think the Lions might take it (benefiting from home field) but I’m cheering more for the Bombers.
My insanely well thought-out reasons why?
Reasons to cheer against the Lions:
- The Grey Cup should not be won by a quarterback named “Lulay”
- Day-Glo Orange is not a suitable colour for a sports uniform. Ever.
- Wally Buono’s hair is an assault on my eyes
Reasons to cheer for the Bombers
- “Buck Pierce”. Can you get more manly derr-hunting-omg-testosterone than that name? Sure, he’s a pale-ass weirdo with bad facial hair, but the name beats out “Lulay” any day
- Their uniforms are pretty decent. No Orange in sight
- My husband giggles at the name “Paul LaPolice” so a win would create more opportunities for me to watch my husband giggle, and that amuses me.
See, told you it was well thought out!
Can we agree, though, that no matter who wins the Grey Cup, Anthony Calvillo is still awesome?
I guarantee all that the Bombers will not have 13 players on the field at any time during the game.
Go Blue!
I was thrilled to hear the Bombers won and will be going to the Grey Cup.
From basement to division champs and playing for the cup in one season, amazing!
Go Bombers!

I have a CIS football rule question, I’m hoping one of you know the game well enough to explain it.
We’re watching the Vanier Cup and are very conflicted over who to cheer for - McMaster, my husband’s alma mater, or Laval, pride of Québec - and the following play occurred a few minutes ago:
A Marauder receiver caught the ball, stumbled and fell in bounds, but was no where near a R&O player, and was not touched. The ball was declared dead. Did something else happen that I missed, or are the CIS rules such that a player that falls over on his own but is not down by contact still down? The CIS website is somewhat unhelpful and my Google-fu is currently hampered by alcohol (really, instead of taking content down and saying “new website coming soon”, just develop the new site in parallel to the existing one!!).
Are there other major rule differences between CIS and CFL that I may want to be aware of (after the fact, since I don’t really expect an answer until after the Vanier Cup is over :))?
thanks!
