Any word from the league about the trading of players yet? I know there was some confusion with the lifting of the lockout and what exactly that meant as far as player movement. Sure would be nice if the Eagles could move Kolb.
Certainly goes against most people’s projections, but he’s made a name for himself being pretty decent at draft prediction. The QB rush is crazy. The Lions putting Fairley next to Suh would be kind of redonkulous.
Rumors that Atlanta wants to trade up to take AJ Green…
I’ve heard a handful of people say he’s the best WR prospect since Calvin Johnson, but he’s not the physical specimen that Megatron is. Green is more if a polished product, he’s not the biggest, fastest or strongest prospect we’ve seen but he’s one of the most complete and NFL ready. He’ll run better routes and do all the subtle things it takes to be a great WR.
However, Julio Jones looks like he’s every bit the talent that Green is. He doesn’t have Green’s hands but he’s more athletic and he’s an elite run blocker and A+ locker room/character guy. If you’re convinced that Green is the pick for the Browns then I think you should be equally gung-ho for Jones as a fall back with the Browns pick.
Looks like a 4 year olds Mock draft. It makes no sense and is riddled with misspellings. He’s got the top three teams drafting players that are terrible scheme fits, no way Denver picks Miller over Dareus. The last thing the Cardinals need is a CB, Detroit isn’t grabbing an second 3 technique and the Rams aren’t wasting a first rounder on a backup RB. Yuck.
Just under 6 hours till the draft! Woo.
I’m a bit pissed I’ll be on the road for the first round and without computer the rest of the time. I enjoy the draft live. But I’ll check in from time to time to share my baseless opinions and dumbass projections.
McShay and Kiper have updated their final Mock Drafts today. There seems to be a consensus developing amongst the top 4 picks. They both, in addition to Beef’s link above, have Newton going to Carolina, Miller to Denver, Dareus to Buffalo and Green to Cincy. I understand the Newton pick, I disagree with it but it’s starting to seem like a sure thing. The Miller and Dareus picks however are a bit baffling. Miller isn’t suited to a 4-3 and that’s what Denver will be running. People think he’s an elite player who you build a system around but that’s a hell of a gamble if he turns out to be a bust, I don’t see any way where he has a major impact as either a 4-3 DE or a Sam/Will LB. Dareus is the best player on the board for the Bills, so I guess I can see the logic and they certainly don’t need a CB in Peterson here but he’s another guy who’d be marginalized by being moved from a 3 technique to a 5 in that scheme. Ugly.
Where the hell you gonna be, the moon?
Hamlet, food for thought, you might be missing the last bit of actual football for 6, 8 or maybe even 12 months. Think about that. Are you sure you aren’t coming down with a bout of explosive diarrhea or something to postpone this excursion?
I’ll be working during all three days and won’t see a minute of it. Yay.
Rick Gosselin has the highest 5 year average in the Mock Draft scorer thingamabob so I’m what seems to be an unconventional mock draft some credibility.
Really, when you think about it, all of the mock drafts just sort of copy off each other as to not look too radical. There are only really minor tweaks between them. If those really do match the draft boards for teams, that would mean the mockers are all super accurate and all reached the same conclusion. If mock drafts were really the result of independent experts who were pretty good but not perfect, they’d vary more.
I do wonder how much all of the draft experts and the mock drafts actually influence who teams pick. Could teams shy away from guys sometimes because they’re worried their fans think they drafted them half a round too high because that’s what all the mocks say? Could they let a guy slip away because they thought he’d be there later because the mocks were down on him while the real NFL teams weren’t?
Incidentally Kiper, Gosselin, Abromowitz, McCrystal and Fronczak, all top 8, all agree the top 5 will contain Newton/Miller/Dareus/Green/Peterson, and all 5 have the Browns going Julio Jones
Actually, not only do they have all of those players as the top 5, but they actually have them in the same order. So they all agree on the top 6:
- Newton
- Miller
- Dareus
- Green
- Peterson
- Jones
All those damn mocks have Gabbert going to the 49ers. Why?
If that happens, fuck. I might just to have to start watcning either the Raiders, or whomever picks Kaepernick.
Just about there…30 minutes until the Panthers submarine their franchise for a half decade.
Should we do a separate live draft thread?
Nah. There’ll be a post draft thread come Sunday.
Plus I get the impression that half the hard core football geeks are MIA tonight. Count me as one person who really wishes they’d get rid of this new draft set up. Move it all back to Saturday and Sunday.
Looks like Cam is going first.
I’d like the first round on Friday primetime, and then the rest over the weekend.
I’m so exited, this is an unpredictable draft. I’m hearing buzz that Von Miller might be tne one that falls past #6.
Listen to those boos.
And it’s Cam Newton first.
Goodell’s a dick.
