2012 Election: Tip Of The Hat / Wag Of The Finger

In honor of Stephen Colbert, let’s all list the things about yesterday that made us either Tip Our Hat or Wag Our Finger… These are mine in no particular order. I may forget some things - it is 6:30 AM!

Tip Of The Hat

Wag Of The Finger
[ul]
[li]Michelle Bachmann reelected.[/li][li]Obama lost North Carolina.[/li][li]Kathy Hochul was unable to win in a gerrymandered district in NY.[/li][li]Michigan Voters Reject Collective Bargaining Ballot Measure.[/li][li]Oregon defeated marijuana legislation.[/li][li]Jon Runyan won in New Jersey.[/li][li]Makeup of the US House did not change significantly.[/li][/ul]

California results:

Tip of the hat: Prop 30 passes! Whoohoo!

Wag of the Finger: Looks like 34 isn’t going to pass, and we’re still stuck with the death penalty. Shame.

Wavering finger: Florida. We still don’t know if its EVs go for Obama or Romney.

A tip of the hat in Florida:

We will probably end up going Obama (I’m sick of this state being too close to call but at least it doesn’t matter this time around).

We shot down the anti-abortion amendment.
We shot down the anti-Obamacare amendment.
We shot down the 'public money for religious institutions" amendment.
We shot down the ‘give more control to the right-wing legislature’ amendment.

We didn’t oust any of the three state Supreme Court justices who have been under fire from the Tea Party and Rick Scott.

We turned out in great numbers despite glaringly obvious attempts to restrict the number of voters who could get out and vote.

Wag Of The Finger:
Barack Obama says he wants to meet with Romney. Whatever for? At least McCain was a sitting Senator, meeting with him had value. Meeting with Romney nas none.

Donald Trump and Karl Rove. Enough said.
Tip Of The Hat:
Michigan voters kept the owner of the Ambassador Bridge from derailing a second bridge crossing in Detroit

Elizabeth Warren goes to the Senate. (I’m sure our mighty Qin is crying in his root beer because Brown lost)

People took offense to the Republican voter suppression and came out to vote because of it.

Even with 100% of precincts reporting, and a 0.5% advantage.

Tip of the hat to Tammy Duckworth, Bangkok-born to a Thai mother and American father in 1968.

I’m not clear how well her campaign has been followed in the US, so forgive me if this is old news.

Tip of the Hat to Minnesota voters:

The amendment to ban same-sex marriage was defeated by over 100,000 votes (it got 48%)

The amendment to require voter ID at the polling place also lost (it got 46%).

Wag of the Finger:
Michelle Bachman’s challenger conceded at 10:00 AM today. At least it was relatively close (50.59% to 49.41%), so it should be an eye-opener for her.

I doubt it. This woman couldn’t get a clue during clue mating season in a field full of horny clues if she smeared her body with clue pheromones and did the clue mating dance.
