2012 Olympics Opening Ceremonies [live commentary on British time]

Czarcasm, believe you me… No matter what we write here… No matter what we say… NOTHING can begin to express the enormous “WTF???” that this whole ceremony is.

It fascinates and enthralls, like a massive train accident combined with a full 747 crashing on the burning wreckage.

Dizzy from Bow!

I feel a bit emotional actually. I would never say this normally but I’m as proud as fuck atm.

It’s just EVERYTHING about modern Britain.

So, modern Britain is a lunatic asylum?

In any case, it would be a double standard, since people on the West Coast are routinely told to suck it up when East Coast people talk about a show that hasn’t aired yet. (And I’m watching it on TV; not on NBC’s site.)

.

Prob, if you live is Arse Ache, Montana.

just out of curiosity—what would have happened if the weather had been bad, like so much of the past few weeks?

Seriously? you go into a thread about the opening ceremony *while it is going on *and you express surprise that people are, well, talking about it? What is wrong with you?

Not really. The Hague, Netherlands. It’s not as if I am not used to insane fun. But there is sometimes something like “too much” insane.

And now, MOOD WHIPLASH! Because, why not?

Aside from the parade of nations, Olympic openers are not expected to have much to do with athletes.
Sounds like fun, I’ll see it in a few hours.

Wonder if the USA will get their knickers in a twist over the gay kiss!

FWIW it is a mixed bag but in a good way, the Chinese version had far too much of the jackboot about it. This is gloriously ridiculous.

Seriously? A simple “Warning-spoilers” in the thread title would have been nice for those of us who can’t watch it for a few hours yet and didn’t know that this thread about the ceremonies(unlike all the others so far) was a live play-by-play.

I got this too and I have been cynical as fook about the olympics since day zero…

Beijing was too serious and had no emotion although it was visually stunning. This is very British in that it isn’t taking itself too seriously.

Bless you!

Those of us who can’t watch it yet should not be going into threads called 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremonies during the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremonies if they don’t want anything revealed to them. It’s a live event - the burden’s on you here to avoid it, not on anyone else.

What was that Pacific Island nation near the front? I like their shirts! (And they wear sarongs, but the look so right!)

except (thus far) binge drinking

American Samoa

Thanks. It’s Summer here in the Pacific Northwest (Finally!) and I’ve been wearing my ‘loose flowing sports shirts’.
