That was amazingly British. I’m so glad that Danny Boyle didn’t go for empty spectacle, but for a bit of wit and wtf. The Industrial Revolution bit culminating in the forging of the rings, one of a couple of Tolkien nods, was really the only OMG bit, comparable to Beijing, but when the Mary Poppins Brigade turned up and also when James Bond met the actual Queen I laughed long and hard.

She is a wrestler apparently and she may well be a fine one, It is a crying shame that I am never going to find out, I feel somewhat sorry for her as well.
The USA are wearing berets, and uniforms? A bit … para-military, maybe. Not really catching the mood of the evening …

Watching from Japan, had to wake up at 5am on a Saturday morning. Good show so far, especially the opening River Thames video, the Bond/Queen bit, and they played OMD, New Order and Pet Shop Boys. Cool deal.
I’m not sure if it’s in the international feed or just the Japanese broadcast, but they seem to choose the cutest/hottest female athletes to do close up shots on. No complaints here.

The flag bearers are pretty much all alpha humans (of both sexes) as far as I’ve seen. I mean, not unexpected, but damn…
