Rush
Donna Summer
Randy Newman
Albert King
Heart
Public Enemy
Quincy Jones
Lou Adler
I’m not a huge Rush fan, but they certainly deserve it.
STILL no Deep Purple?
Final-fucking-ly.
Good list. I can see people getting annoyed at the inclusion of Donna Summer, but they really need to listen to songs like “Hot Stuff” and “Bad Girls” and tell me to my face that they don’t rock.
Never was a Rush fan myself, but agree that they deserve to be in.
Is anybody outside of the most diehard Rush fans looking forward to an inaugural concert made up of those groups?
I’d say it’s the first inductee line-up I would actively avoid.
I can hardly wait to hear how they feel about it.
As posted on the band’s Facebook page (that’s where I first heard the announcement):
[Quote=Rush]
“We are honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 3 of us are especially appreciative of our loyal fans whose support and dedication has gone a long way to making this possible. P.S. And special thanks to our moms for voting 6000 times!” - Alex, Geddy, & Neil

Now, to what extent that was written by them, versus their PR agent – or if it represents their unvarnished POV on the topic – who knows, but they’re being publicly gracious, and a little tongue-in-cheek.
I can give a pass on Donna Summer, Disco sucks but it came from Rock and Roll, but I refuse to accept Public Enemy as Rock and Roll.
Not sure if this means they’re an official nominee or not.
Wow! I didn’t see that one coming at all. I figured they were this year’s KISS, a nomination to shut up the vocal fans, but not an inductee.
Back in the nominations thread I had predicted (pretty much going on political considerations and not personal opinion of merit):
Public Enemy - lock (got in)
Donna Summer - lock due to recent passing (got in)
Either Heart or Joan Jett, but not both. (Heart’s in)
Deep Purple (wrong)
Kraftwerk (wrong)
I predicted “no” for Rush, and Albert King. I had Randy Newman as “eventually, but not this year”.
All my other "no"s didn’t get in.
So I predicted 9/14 (64%). Not exactly the Nate Silver of Rock and Roll.
My predictions were just so-so, too.
I had Donna Summer and Randy Newman as locks, which they were. I said either NWA or Public Enemy was a lock, but not both (I was right, but that was a bit of a hedge). I also said either Rush or Deep Purple (but not both) would get in, and I thought it would be Deep Purple.
I find it bizarre that so many bands that were OBVIOUSLY hugely influenced by Deep Purple are in already, but Deep Purple isn’t.
I’m so proud of my boys! They really do deserve this.
They should turn it down. Screw them (the RRHOF, not RUSH)
There’s an interview over at Rolling Stone where that’s suggested. Teddy says that would be mst ungracious and that’s not their thing.
Ged also says that his mom is very happy.
To quote my husband:
“First Obama gets releected and now Rush gets in the RRHOF. Yes Virginia, there IS a Santa Claus”.
Rush should be inducted with an asterisk explaining that the band gets in minus Geddy Lee’s voice.
Good for Heart. Any R&R HOF without Ann Wilson would be incomplete.
Ditto
PE and Quincy Jones are really the only ones that are important… and neither are "Rock’n’Roll."Such a lackluster group.
The NY Dolls, The Replacements, Cheap Trick, ELO, The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division, and Brian Eno all are waiting.
