2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees announced (Rush made it!)

Do the Beach Boys and Heart make the first ever set of parent-child inductees?

Jeez, if Deep Purple can’t even get in right after Jon Lord died, I guess we can forget it.

Are you serious? Have you listened to it lately? I happened to hear it on the radio yesterday, which is why I posted. The producers used a variety of effects to make it easily the most interesting drum solo in rock. Sounds nothing at all like the usual banging away for five minutes that became endemic in that era.

And it worked even live. Yes, I saw Iron Butterfly in concert c. 1970. A half-hour of “In” with about a 15-minute solo, after which Bushy collapsed on stage. I couldn’t tell whether it was staged or not but the band seemed concerned. I’m probably one of the few people alive who can talk about an Iron Butterfly concert. True, that’s because all the others died from drug overdoses, but what’s left of my memory tells me I enjoyed it. (Age, not drugs, in my case.)

Unless you’re really thinking of Wilson Phillips, I need a cite on this. Ann and Nancy were Wilsons, but their father was a Marine not a Beach Boy.

As always, I wonder if Johnny Rivers has a shot.

Exapno:

Oops…my mix-up.

Wow. I missed that.

Yep. Maybe it’s because I’m a drummer with jazz training, but that solo is pretty weak. The Kiss Alive! solo uses effects, as well, but all they do is highlight the lack of skill.

Finally. Now perhaps people on here will give over about bloody Rush.

The rest of the world still does not know or care about Rush.

To paraphrase an old BASF advertising slogan:

“Rush doesn’t make the music you like. They make the music you like better.”

(By inspiring many of those musicians who went on to become more “commercially” popular.)
