Clearly a disappointing European season for the British clubs. But they will bounce back, they always do. Chelsea will make a more serious challenge next year because any team managed by Mourinho will be competitive. Both Manchester sides have the talent but not made them all gel yet. And the end to Arsenal’s season suggests they may achieve more consistency.
In the league itself, happy to say goodbye to QPR and Joey Barton. Hopefully Hull will join them and lose their idiot owner (see also: Leeds United) in the process. I can’t see them getting the win they need. Much as Newcastle’s implosion is entertaining, they belong in the Premier League. Likewise Sunderland. I will make the not very bold prediction that all three clubs will end the season on their current points totals (though I suppose Hull might manage a battling draw that won’t be quite enough for them).
Chelsea and (w/ all respect to Monaco) especially Arsenal should’ve made a better showing in Europe this last year; but even when you’ve got two legs, its still a cup competition, and shit happens. Next year, I fully expect Chelsea to do better. Arsenal have a shot; City may or may not, depending on what we do in the summer. The rags will get fail to qualify, and the additional effort will drag down their season until Christmas, at which point they’ll be struggling somewhere around mid-table.
Hey, it’s another member of the “Fuck Assem Allam in the Neck Anti-Fan Club!” I’ve been usually quietly and occasionally vocally cheering for Hull [del]City A.F.C., aka “The[/del] Tigers[del]”[/del] to go down as karma for their jagoff of an owner, and it’s looking very good like my wishes will be granted. The funny thing is–almost every time I’ve tweeted about this in an easily searchable way, I’ve had a few Hull City fans favorite or retweet. And since I wasn’t then subject to pelters of abuse, as near as I can tell, there’s a decent handful of the club’s fans who are ready for them to go down to hopefully unseat Allam or get him to see the error of his ways, a la Vincent Tam at Cardiff.
Meanwhile, I was pleased to see my “second” team, Leicester City FC, clinch safety! The Foxes nearly stole my heart with their early season victory against that Trafford lot, but I was pretty much resigned to following them in the Championship with the scores on my fotmob app. And then…maybe it was the ostrich burgers they started serving in the club canteen, but somehow they turned it around! Plus, this means we have another season of everyone’s favorite hard man, Nigel Pearson, to look forward to (probably, anyway).
Chelsea lifted the trophy, and well they deserved it.
Joe Hart and Sergio Aguero won the Golden Glove and Boot and were… honored… wait, what? Neither of them… what?
…two filthy mercenaries from the club that is Ruining Football were given awards which, next season, we will ensure cannot go to such horrible human beings.
Assem Allam earned the right to take his “powerful” name down into the second tier of English football. We are sure that the omission of the word “City” from the name “Hull City AFC ‘The Tigers’” will instantly make Hull City–er, Hull AF–er–Hull Tigers a smash hit in Asia, resulting in a flood of cash that floats Hull C—er, Tigers–to the top tier again.
Newcastle supporters must be congratulated on earning another season of hopeless mediocrity lining Mike Ashley’s pocket’s.
Trafford… honestly, I can’t say anything here. I’m just looking forward to another season of LVGisms in the PL.
See you all in 60-something days, and be aware: Pellegrini’s (or Klopp’s, or Ancelotti’s, or Guardiola’s, but probably Pellegrini’s) Blue Army are going to be aiming for the title again!
The FA Cup final is coming next weekend, so for me as a Gooner the season’s not quite over, yet–one last chance to claim some glory after once again qualifying for the Champions League but not really ever challenging for the title. For Arsenal, the answer for next season is some small tweaking, not a big overhaul. The “Wenger out” idiots can take a long walk of a short pier.
I was shocked to see Liverpool crumble so badly at the end. I really had them pegged for a top-four finish.
His red card was for one of the daftest things I’ve seen in football. That said, he probably should have been sent off the week before. I’m pretty sure he wants out of the Premier League.
It’s easy to think about what might have been if we hadn’t dropped so many points to bad teams early on, but I am overall happy with Spurs season; 5th place, last 16 of Europa League, and played in a Cup Final. Most significantly we did this with the youngest team in the league, so I am hopeful that we can build on this and contend for top four next year. COYS!!
I worry about the teams terrible form for the last couple of months of the season, but I am hoping it’s because Poche didn’t trust more than about 13 of the team to actually play in his style. Eriksen and Kane looked totally gassed by the end. Lamela is looking like he may come good yet, and Danny Rose has really come into his own as a Left Back.
It’s promising. I have hope. Also, we beat the gooners to win the derby. I couldn’t really ask for more. The new player we just signed looks like he might be good too. I am going to be holding my breath for the whole summer transfer hoping we keep getting better and don’t lose too many players.
ETA: are there more of us who support Tottenham than Arsenal in this thread? That is officially awesome. COYS
I think us Arsenal fans were probably too busy preparing for the FA cup final.
Pretty dominant performance today, going tops all-time with 12 FA cups. Now just one or two additions and I really do think this squad can challenge for the league next season.
