2014-15 Barclays Premier League Thread

After pulling off an incredible second-half run to stay in the Premier League, Leicester City has found itself in a bit of a PR nightmare.

Leicester City is owned by a Thai businessman and his son, and the football players were apparently in Thailand on a goodwill tour. I’m sure that having an orgy with Thai prostitutes and referring to them as “slit eye” will do a lot to help with cultural understanding. Nice one, guys!

Enjoy your summer.

That’s a rather unfortunate turn of phrase…

Am I the only one who saw Arsenal dominating the officiating as well? I mean, not saying it swung the match, but every time an Arsenal player went down there was a whistle, while Aston Villa were being hauled down like it was a rugby game, while the official looked on beaming. IIRC even the announcers were shocked that a penalty wasn’t given.
Or is this just how English Premier League games are called: the front-runner gets every benefit of the doubt?

Ridiculous exaggeration. Not a single Aston Villa player was competitive with Arsenal at any position, so they responded with hugely more fouls.

They commented that it should have been a foul, but it was also clearly just outside the box. I agree that it should have been a free kick to Aston Villa. But as long as we’re on this subject, the were at least two penalty shouts that could have been awarded to Arsenal as well, and were noted by the commentators. I particularly recall a set piece where Koscielny’s shirt was literally pulled over his head.

The top-level referees always attempt to be as fair as possible to both sides; their careers depend on it, and they take pride in it. In balance, I think they achieve it most of the time.

Oh, Newcastle, you are just begging for me to stop being a fan of you…

In other news, John Terry has demanded a transfer to Leicester City.

Arsenal fan, are we?
