My question is, was his move to Carolina for more money, or were both teams offering the same money and same length of contract, and he just wanted to go to Carolina?
I originally thought he went to Carolina because they made him a better financial offer. Do you (or anyone) know the specifics of the offers made by the Steelers to Cotchery and what he accepted from the Panthers?
Haha! I didn’t mean it to sound insulting. From what I read the offers were similar but his wife wanted to go to Carolina. Their career numbers are pretty similar. Cotchery is a bit taller but I really think we will be happy with Moore as the slot guy or possibly the fourth receiver.
Oh, there was no insult inferred, I was just caught off guard by the idea that anyone would think the Panthers were trying to outbid anyone for anyone…
The Bears restructured their contract with Jay Cutler yesterday and used the newly available cash to sign Jared Allen. Holy flurkin’ snit.
I’m surprised that he went to Chicago, but I am OK with this signing. He doesn’t play the run so well, in fact you might argue that he plays the pass every single down, but I’m hoping that the Bears can give him plenty of breaks so he stays fresh and maybe they can just wind him up and let him run loose. His stats are pretty ridiculous, at least his sack stats are, and the Bears need someone who can produce those.
Since this thread popped up again, I’ll ask this question I meant to ask a couple of weeks ago:
Hakeem Nicks signed with the Colts… for one year, $3.5 million with another $2 million in incentives. Whaaaa?
If there’s anyone who should have wanted a longer term contract, it’s Mr. Ouchy. I certainly understand the Colts not wanting to commit to more years, but Hakeem is an elite/near-elite receiver - couldn’t he have found a longer-term deal somewhere, given that he had more suitors (definitely the Panthers, probably others)?
Speaking from the perspective of someone who drafted Nicks in fantasy last year. He wasn’t close to Elite. He was slow, ran bad routes, dropped all kinds of balls, and was in general complete shit. I’d say getting a one year deal to prove that last year was the aberration, and he still has something to offer, seems about right to me.
I’ve been out of pocket all week and this is the first time I’m hearing about this. I wanted Allen, but until I see the contract numbers I’ll reserve judgment. I’m particularly unhappy with us converting Cutler’s money to bonus, I’d rather take the big hit now.
But, if Allen gives us 13 sacks chances are we’re winning the division so that’s a great trade off. If Allen it’s cooked, this is the equivalent of guaranteed money to him as far as the cap is concerned.
In any case, the Bears couldn’t have really done a better job of rebuilding the D line in FA.
That’s a bit more coin than I’m really comfortable with, especially with the guarantee.
He’s younger than people realize and hasn’t really seen a drop off in production, so maybe it’s ok but suddenly we have a lot of money tied up in pass rushers again.
Houston will still be the star signing, but we now have a formidable rotation.
He passed the physical. I read the full medical report. He actually “passed” a kidney stone during the physical, which gives him one completion in two seasons.
Better than Barkley? Yeah, I’ll give him that. Our new QB coach, Bill Musgrave, better have a plan. Markymark needs to gel with something. We haven’t seen him play in a season, and Chip thinks he’s “a great athlete”, so let’s see it!
And Vick to Jets. Is he their starter? Can’t be. Too injured and unsure where to be. That description is what we’ve seen of both these guys. Best of luck to Vick, and please, Foles, DO NOT be injured!
That was a shock too. Bears can use him well. And damn, Allen will tear up the Vikings offense. Many of my friends are Vikes fans. So far, I can’t mention the words Vikings, Purple, Bears, Al or Alan (Allen) in front of them. It will be too weird watching him play in a navy uniform.
Eagles release DeSean Jackson. There’s got to be more of a reason than the contract griping to cause the Eagles to release him. I can’t believe they couldn’t get at least a draft pick for him.
I think it probably had summat to do with the murders his crew is being implicated in. Or, more cynically, with the Eagles’ possible perception that they’d be better off looking like they cut ties with him before that became a bigger issue.
It is sounding like DJax may be a big issue for any team for basically everything but the time he is on the field. His off field issues and work ethic seem to be big problems that could blow up on a GM. Worse for Philly, everybody found out *before *they gave anything up for him. One report I saw said they went from fielding multiple offers for him to calling around begging in less than three days as these issues came out on social media.
Apparently he’s visiting Washington Monday. I’m not sure they have the cap space; last report I saw had them at a little over $7M, but I guess without a 1st round pick they don’t need to hold back much for draftees.
Aside from financial concerns, I’m quite certain a potential head case and another big distraction is NOT what the 'Skins need, no matter how much they need a 2nd legit receiver.
