McCullum and Williamson gone. Bangladesh in the box seat.
Fine work from the Bangas, Kiwis have a real chase on their hands. Let’s see what depth the middle order has…
If BD beat the Kiwis, then they could leapfrog SL into third place…right?
Yes. Read somewhere that BD has beaten NZ in all of last 6-7 encounters?
Maybe in post #338?
They’ve never beaten New Zealand in New Zealand though, or in a World Cup match.
Oops. Missed post#338.
Correct. Those were home games for BD. Different conditions. Most likely not as strong NZ side also.
Nice innings from Guptill, need more of the same from Ross Taylor. Good game.
Well that was a lot closer than it should have been. New Zealand win by 3 wickets with an over to go.
Looks like the rain is going to rob us of an opportunity to lose to Afghanistan and definitely get rid of our wretched coaching set up once and for all. Still, tying on points with Afghanistan for joint bottom of the group and only managing to sneak ahead of them on RR is hardly a moral victory.
Absolutely nothing in that, could have gone either way. Taylor still unconvincing this World Cup.
England game back on, with a target of 101 from 25.
Afghans drop a catch off the third ball.
Ugh. We might win this game.
This game needs a hat-trick.
The Kiwi batting line up is quite shaky, especially while chasing. That could be fatal in the KO stages.
Yes it was an inspiring batting performance (Guptill accepted).
Good news for Pakistan and Ireland: West Indies v UAE tomorrow could well be a washout, depending on when Cyclone Pamarrives in New Zealand.
India came back extremely well to beat Zimbabwe and Australia trounced Scotland.
At last we get into the finals. As I understand it the quarter finals will be:
- NZ versus either Ireland or W.I.
- Australia versus Pakistan.
- Sri Lanka versus South Africa.
- India versus Bangladesh.
If Ireland beat Pakistan they’ll qualify third in their group. Pakistan’s net runrate is considerably better than the West Indies, so even if Pakistan loe their game (and the West Indies win theirs) Pakistan should go through.
The West Indies need Ireland to lose, and to beat UAE before the rains arrive. At the moment it’s slipping away from them, after having UAE at 46/6 a fine partnership has seen the UAE move through to 125/6.
UAE all out for 175 in 47.4 overs.
If my calculations are correct (working in spoiler), if the West Indies get this in less than 35 overs their net run rate will be better than Pakistan’s current Net runrate of -.194 (which of course can’t improve if Pakistan lose tonight). As it is the West Indies have a better net rr than Ireland.
So tonight’s loser of Pakistan v Ireland is in real danger of elimination.
West Indies run rate
For Against Net
Current 1309 runs in 248 overs (5.278rpo) 1349 runs in 233 overs 5.790(rpo) NRR=-0.511
After UAE 1484 runs in 283 overs (5.244rpo) 1524 in 280 overs 5.431(rpo) NRR=-0.187
(assuming 35 overs)
Unless there is a tie, the Windies will finish fourth and face NZ. Either Pakistan or Ireland face Australia.
The run rate only comes into effect if the teams have won the same number of games- which they will have.
The way I understand it, this really is a knock out game.
The ref should step in an award a TKO. Ireland are being murdered by the Pakistani openers after posting a disappointing 237.
