Anyone know why the ESPN coverage in the USA is available on by a $99 subscription? I’m curious to check it out, but not going to pay that kind of fee.
I’d like to say it’s disappointing by England but, frankly, it’s about what I expected. Let them get too many runs and then throw wickets away in the chase.
A few bright spots though, such as James Taylor getting 98* (and, according to cricinfo reports, being possibly robbed of a century by a poor umpiring decision).
Reverse woofing attempt?
For the next couple of weeks you and I are going to be simpatico for a change, eh?
Make a nice change.
Plus, its true. India have Sharma, Kohli, Raiena and Dhoni. Our bowling consists of Irfan, Wahab Riaz, Afridi and Yasir Shah. All except the last are supporting types, not player you can build an attack around.
Probably because they can’t dedicate any of their free channels to it, considering that matches last, what, 4-5 hours?
I am a little surprised they can’t find a channel for the final, especially as it starts around midnight Eastern on a Saturday night - it’s not as if ESPN2 has anything better to show at that time, except maybe a west-coast NIT game.
He was certainly robbed of the opportunity to get a well deserved hundred. Another of those baffling decisions where you sit there watching professionals stuff it up while knowing they are wrong. Even Taylor repeatedly told the umpires, correctly, that the ball was dead as soon as he was given out.
India Bats. When the national anthems were played, I realised I did not recognise half the players in the Pak Team. Thats horrible.
Concerning the India / Pakistan game being played today, I am most annoyed to find out channel 9 is not covering it. I root for Aussie in the end have no doubt, but India and Pakistan have a habit of turning out cracking great matches when they play each other so its a great shame it didn’t make free to air. I’ll tune in periodically to the radio instead…
India make exactly 300, will it be enough?
Meanwhile in Hamilton Zimbabwe need 130 odd in the last 15 overs to catch South Africa. They;ve kept their wickets well though so could be an outside chance for a big upset.
I think Zimbabwe gave RSA a hell of a fright.
Pakistan have started well against India- chasing 300 they are 1 wicket down for 48 as I type.
Kohli is a class batsman.
Couple of wickets in an over leaving Pakistan probably too much to do now. And as I type, they lose another to a review. 103/5, India’s to throw away.
Yep- turned to shite very quickly.
I do think it a bit quirky with India reviewing a decision (and getting a positive reply) given their opposition to the system.
Yup as I expected. Poor batting and fielding haunt Pakistan again. Three dropped catches.
BTW, does anyone know how hell Akmal was given out.
I haven’t been watching the game but I have been following it on ESPN. It came across that no one was convinced that it should have been out. That is only my take though.
Ireland - West Indies tonight. WI have got to be favourites - even with their problems, you’d think that the likes of Chris Gayle could take the game beyond anything Ireland could score. I think Ireland’s best chance is to put them in and hope for a collapse, but I can see them trying to amass a score and seeing if they defend it.
In every game so far, the team batting first has amassed at least 300.
It’s a simple game really isn’t it? Bat first, score 300+ and watch the chasing team implode.
Zimbabwe looked pretty good in the field, I can see them causing problems for Pakistan and the West Indies and maybe making the quarters.
Ireland put the Windies in, got them down to 87 for 5 only for Sammy and Simmons to put things in order and get the total up to 304/7. It should be enough, surely.
As I write Ireland are 5/290 with 15 runs needed in 36 balls … !
… and Niall O’Brien (could there be a more Irish name?) just got 10 runs in 4 balls, despite one more wicket going down. Amazing scenes!
And it’s all over, with one final 4 Ireland end up on 6/307 and beat the Windies by 4 wickets, having (very bravely, I thought) sent them in to bat. A new low for WI, surely? Or a straw in the wind of a new minor power arising? One can only hope.
