2015 Louisiana Gubernatorial Election

One might reasonably have expected the gubernatorial elections of Louisiana to be a typical depressing affair as was the case in other Southern and Border states, resulting in the election of a Republican hardliner and another 4 years of misrule. However, by happy circumstance, in the “jungle primaries” of Louisiana on October 24th the Republican candidate who survived turned out to be former Senator and degenerate sex pervert David Vitter. Vitter of course was revealed to be have committed adultery back in 2007 when his phone number was found in the log of a DC whorehouse madam, going so far as to have missed a vote honouring some veteransthe same day he returned phone calls from a harlot (and possibly even tried to get one of his women to obtain an abortion when he impregnated her. In contrast, the Democratic nominee-John Bel Edwards despite an unfortunate similarity in name to the disgraced North Carolina politician, is an honourable man who served in the elite 82nd Airborne Division and refused to abort his daughter Samantha when the doctors diagnosed her with spina bifida. Additionally, befitting his state, he has taken anti-abortion and pro-gun stances garnering A-level ratings from the NRA even as he strenuously denounces Jindal’s disastrous misgovernment and advocates expansion of Medicaid and restoring funding of higher education. The polls confirm Edwards’s strength, with him leading by a fairly large margin in all recent polls. Having seen the unfortunate result in Kentucky, one worries the same thing will happen here-however Edwards appears to be leading by a larger margin and is running against Vitter as well as the legacy of a deeply unpopular governor. One hopes that in the 80th anniversary of his assassination, the vengeful ghost of the late and great Huey Long will be Edwards in once more driving the forces of plutocracy and reaction from Baton Rouge.

I’ve always said that the secret to long term political success isn’t demographics, it’s governing well. Jindal is one of the, if not the most, unpopular governor in the country. Louisiana is going blue this year for sure, and Democratic turnout won’t even matter since independents are probably going 2-1 or more for Edwards.

From everything I’ve read about Edwards, I would support him over Vitter myself.

It doesn’t hurt if you are willing to flip the bird at some of the overall party’s platform. That’s especially useful if neither party’s platform fits with most of the constituency. Edward’s seems to have gotten that piece down. Running to the right of Bill Clinton in a red dominated state doesn’t hurt either.

THat’s usually a bad strategy, actually, but just about anything will work against Vitter, due to his own record and the record of Jindal.

Wiki sez the runoff will be November 21 – that can’t be right, can it?! It’s a Saturday. What State of this Union is sensible enough to have elections on Saturday instead of Tuesday?!

I remember eight years ago there was promise and excitement about Bobby Jindal, he turned out to be a poor governor.

Because he wasn’t interested in being Gov., he was too busy looking ahead to the next position

AIUI, Jindal has spent every job in his life half-ignoring it while building his resume for the next one.

You forgot to mention that Vitter was listed in the madam’s little black book as liking to wear diapers.

That might be a blessing in disguise.

You are right, he just looks for next opportunity. I think it is his goal to try ever job possible.

Did he ever answer any questions on #askbobby? Like, for instance,

John Bel Edwards put out an absolutely brutal ad against Vitter, and it’s awesome.

Edwards is a fairly conservative Democrat, something very rare these days.

Given Jindal’s mismanagement of state finances and Vitter’s repulsiveness, I’d certainly vote for Edwards if I lived in Louisiana.

Let me just say that I am shocked…shocked!…to see such scurrilous hearsay included in our conversations! Renounce, denounce, condemn!

If you have more of these nasty shitbits of gossip, perhaps it might be best to get them all out at once, that we might recoil in disgust and dismay, and then move on.

Wait a second, don’t start yet, let me get a beer…

Fortunately, yet, regrettably, encouragingly. :frowning:

Here’s the … dirty laundry.

It looks like Vitter may have found a meme that could help him at the ballot box come this Saturday:

From MSNBC

And for fun, here is the ad.

Slimy as this is, I actually think this could work for Vitter and get him elected. Nothing like a little hysterical fear mongering to scare the idiots. Clearly I don’t hold the average Louisiana voter in very high esteem.

Well, it is the state that produced a run-off election between Klansman David Duke and Edwin Edwards, who’d been investigated by four grand juries for racketeering, bribery and extortion.

Fortunately Edwards’s stolen a good deal of the thunder by also opposing refugee settlement and again attacking Vitter for missing Congressional hearing relating to national security issues. And the resident of the state that elected Rod Blagojevich, Mark Kirk, and Bruce Rauner doesn’t exactly have much to complain about wrt Louisiana.

At least Edwards kept the machines well greased and running-which is more than you can say for the Lincoln Chafees of the world.
