I’m not saying it was a bad call, but “When the game was on the line, he wanted a seat on the bench” Isn’t exactly epic ballad worthy. ![]()
I completely undervalued the Denver D during the AFC championship. This has been a clinic.
Yep, that dive. Unless you were a Broncos fan, 33 was pretty boring.
I think that’s going to seal it.
Looks like he didn’t want to chance getting hurt.
Nah, you have to factor in all the pot at the Superbowl parties there, as a mitigating factor for getting knocked up.
That was the last pass Manning will throw in the NFL. Even though it’s unofficial.
Can I ask a stupid question? (I don’t watch much football.)
There was some famous game involving New England and Oakland some years back where the NE quarterback had the ball knocked out of his hands late in the match. Fumble, recovery to Oakland, game over, Oakland wins. Only there was something about a “tuck rule” and the ruling was that it was actually an incomplete pass (?). NE kept the ball, tied and won the game.
That fumble or whatever it was by Newton looked very similar to my recollection of the other play. What makes it different? Or, did they change the rule?
Thanks.
It occurred to me that going for 2 may not have been the right move? If Carolina had turned it over and scored, it would have trimmed the deficit to 22-12: a TD and a FG.
Tuck rule is still in effect, as far as I know. It looked to me that Cam never brought it up to throw. Ball was back in his hand and knocked out low.
In all fairness, the Panthers will be back. Newton is extremely skilled, and Carolina is a very good team. It won’t surprise me at all if they win a couple of Super Bowls in the next three or four years.
That said: Yeeeeeehaaaaah!
Go Broncos!
Yes, I think Peyton’s fumble was closer than that one.
The closest I’ve seen a team come to a 2-point defensive score on a 2-point conversion attempt was the Broncos in the AFC Championship game and even then the guy fumbled the ball back, not that it mattered. That’s an awfully low chance to defend against, versus the upside of being up two full touchdowns plus trys.
One was knocked out of his arm during a passing motion, which makes it an incomplete pass, but Newton’s wasn’t during an official passing motion(yet) which makes it a fumble.
Basically an arm motion counts as being part of a pass from the moment the hand starts forward with the ball, through the point where the ball is released if it is, but if it isn’t thrown , it is still part of the passing motion clear through the point where the arm stops moving, through the time where it moves backward, all the way until the Quarterback has it tucked back into his body again, at which point it finally isn’t part of the passing motion again, and can be fumbled.
I’m voting Von Miller MVP
IIRC, the tuck rule basically said that if the QB loses the ball during a pump fake(even while tucking the ball back into his body), it still counts as a incomplete pass. I think that the intent was to free the refs from having to distinguish a pump fake and a pass attempt.
Congratulations, Broncos!
Big huge congrats to Peyton Manning for reaching 200 all-time wins! That’s quite a high bar to set for future quarterbacks!
Okay, now that that’s out of the way… man, what a boring game. Neither team’s offense looked super, but the Broncos defense did. I’d give the game a 3/10 as entertainment.
Oh, and the commercials were boring and the halftime show was an abomination that surely indicates an imminent apocalypse of some kind.
With that defense, they should be in contention. But I don’t think they’ll be able to have the easiest schedule and be the league leaders in turnovers every year.
That lateral was heads up, but not getting out of bounds was stupid.
What? Does pot make you less horny? (I wouldn’t know.)
