2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced

Totally agree, but do people outside electronic music know that? I don’t actually know who the voters are.

When did Tupac play rock music?

I suppose I can be the first to ask: “Bad Brains?”

Super influential DC hardcore punk band, made up of African Americans. Listen to Pay to Cum.

OK. Did that. And I’m going to have stick with my original question.

Pearl Jam should be an automatic.

And course, there’s the Animaniacs with “Who’s on stage?”

Well, if you’re of a certain age and of a rock inclination, they’re huge. Probably one of the first bands to combine that level of technical playing with that level of hard edge, if not the first. My two favorites are I Against I and Big Take Over.

I’m actually pretty excited about their inclusion.
Still no Link Wray.
ETA: hehehe, and Ric Ocasek produced Bad Brain’s Rock for Light

I actually know more than one person on that list, which is kind of cool.

I’d pick:

1 - Kraftwerk: visionaries and a huge influence and everything electronic. Plus, they also had some really great tunes and a very distinctive, innovative soundworld.

2 - Chic: Come on, that sterling guitar and bass work must be acknowledged. Solid, catchy songs to boot.

3 - Depeche Mode: started out as forgettable poppy idols but grew deeper and darker really quickly. Very influencial, too.

4 - Electric Light Orchestra: Lots of catchy tunes and a refined, very distinctive sound.

5 - The Cars: Again, some really good songs and a sound that defines the mid-80s.

To paraphrase Gene Simmons, rappers should be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame when Led Zeppelin gets inducted into the Rap Hall of Fame.

The truth is, you don’t remotely have to be a rock and roller to get into the R&R Hall of Fame these days.

Stories, please!

Oh yay, they’re going to screw over Yes yet again. It’s obvious those people hate prog so why even bother nominating Yes?

Hey, Rush got in so there’s hope.

It has been well established that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about all popular music that stemmed from the early pioneers.

And frankly, that’s how it should be. It’s much easier this way that engaging in unwinnable arguments as to whether something rocks enough.

so any anyone who sold a lot of records gets in.

I listened to the Bad Brains song suggested up thread and frankly my car made better sounds when the water pump froze up and sheared off. I think it actually hit more notes and the percussion was waaaaaay better.

And this. (Poor video quality, but the only one I could find.)

Exactly.

Thomas Pynchon, Saul Bellow and Philip Roth have been robbed again.

I think the best solution is to change the name to Jann Wenner’s Hall of Favorite Musicians.
